Fuad Manuel Asfura Giraldez English 8-3 October 17, 2008 Everyone Bullies Melinda Sordino Last year a boy from the Everest school was kicked out for bullying at school, and was not accepted in some other school. This is why bullying is bad. Melinda, the main character of the novel Speak does not bully, but she is being bullied, and it practically ruins her life. Since the first day of school Melinda has been bullied by her ex-friends and other particular people. Therefore Melinda is still being bullied throughout all the ninth grade.
Joyce had attempted to get in touch with her daughter in any way she could. but all she got from her daughter was suspicious behaviors and a simple response “ will write later. Don't worry”. She decided to get in her daughter’s e-mail account to see if she could find any clue what was going on with Audrey. She found out that Johnny the guy who her daughter was in love with had tested H.I.V positive.
She was adopted when she was only young, her foster parents always fight and on top of that the whole school classifies her as a freak! Alyssa Brugman’s book “Walking Naked” is probably one of the most significant books I’ve read about schoolyard bullying. The book describes the bad side about bullying and its life changing consequences in this case. For me it made me stop and think about the way I treat people. Everyone is equal and deserve to be treated that way even if we are all a bit different in the way we look and act.
Jessica Mazza Professor Douglass HS 101-06 21 November 2009 Who Killed Daniel Pearl? The lecture by Asra Nomani told the heart-wrenching story of the disappearance of Daniel Pearl and the difficult life of being a Muslin woman. Nomani talked about how she loved growing up in New Jersey; however, in 1975 she moved to Morgantown, West Virginia, which was a completely different life for Muslim women. Nomani described the rigid community as a “new interpretation of Islam going into the community”. This quote was referred back to many times during the lecture which stressed how strongly Nomani felt about the treatment of her religion.
But because she had to go to a detention centre, the social worker basically forced her into going to this class. Anne is very smart too, but she won a scholarship.”’…it wasn’t a boy that took the Avery scholarship was it? It was a girl-my girl- my girl that I’m proud of.’”(Page 292, Montgomery) Anne was at the top of the class most of her time at Avonlea School, and this lead her to win the Avery scholarship. Everyone is proud of her and she definitely deserved
One article which was a story on a girl who blamed her father for the divorce of her parents, the other was about pregnant teenagers of Hazelwood East High School sharing the experiences they encountered in the school. Hester was then forced to wear an “A” on her clothes which stood for Adultery. Easy A had a much different twist than the real scarlet letter though. High school student, Olive Penderghast, was not well known around school. In fact, she was socially alienated. When her best friend asked her what she had done that weekend, Olive quick came up with a lie to make her life sound more interesting.
Moore heard a talk show person talk about how people do not even know basic literature and when Moore calls up the talk show person the person did not even know what the books were. This shows how people talk about how bad teachers are but the teachers are not the problem. He talks about how humans live in a democracy when they live in America, but students learn in a totalitarian government when they are in schools. This shows how schools cannot do anything to protect themselves due to the pressure that the government is putting on them. Moore also describes a situation where a school that is sponsoring Coco-Cola has a picture and the kids can only wear Coca-Cola apparel and one kid wears another T-Shit to school.
Now those bullies know that what they did is wrong but it took her death for them to come to their senses and realize this. We all know that the suicide of Izzy isn’t the first however her mum stated that she wants her daughter to be the last. School children do not realize the pain that can be caused by bullies until it happens to them. The fact that Gabbi told the school countless times – too many times – is shameful of the school, who at the time did not want to make a statement which to us, the reader, reflects their
