I AM NOT STUPID I AM NOT STUPID Professor Nancy Parker American InterContinental University Marlene Davis English 105 I AM NOT STUPID “Why are you so stupid?” Why are people stereotyping before they get to know the person? When a person is stereotyped as stupid, that person may believe that’s the way he/she is supposed to act. My school life shows how I was stereotyped as stupid, and how it affected me during my school years. I remember when I was in elementary school, how cruel children could really behave. I really hated to join any kind of games, because if I gave the wrong answer then I was called stupid. “You gave the wrong answer, stupid!” As I kept hearing that phrase in elementary school, it didn’t affect me as much until I entered junior high school. Junior high school is a year when you start to develop in many forms. I noticed that a lot of girls were developing faster than me. One afternoon a few girls were in the locker room discussing their menstruation. I realized that everyone has something to say but myself. One of the girls said, “Look, everyone, Moe is quiet. She is still a stupid baby.” It started to get on my nerves in junior high school. When I reached high school I started to get really angry with that word. As I entered high school I really start to believe I was just plain stupid. I received my first failing grade when I was in the ninth grade; that’s when I really realized that everyone was correct. I was stupid. When I got in the 11th grade I started to act like that person everyone said I was, STUPID. My mother talked to me and told me that just because someone says I am something, it doesn’t mean it’s true. I decided that I will make everyone out to be a liar. In the 11th grade I was not passing any class by the second report
