Estrellado, Desiree L. BS Entrep. 4A Case 5: The Hyundai Group Background The Hyundai Motor Co. was a part of South Korean Chaebol largest automobile manufacturer. Founded by, Chung Ju-Yung. Chung, known as a man willing to tackle the impossible and willing to accept “no” from a subordinate . Hyundai management establishes itself over the world as a company producing reliable and stylish automobiles. Hyundai was in the midst of acute labor problem when Southeast Asian crisis struck the company. They faced serious financial problems. To survive they cut its labor force. The company offered various s rebelled against the management and the company faced strikes and workers unrest repeatedly Statement of the problem The damage caused of management and employee relations. Analysis South Koreans economic boom put Hyundai in a position where in their strategy of low wages and hard work where no longer sufficient .The pressure built up during the harsh year of management style of Hyundai. It causes several labor strikes. The strikers found their main base amongst workers in heavy industry especially in Ulsan. The workers want better working conditions. They don’t have voices in management decisions and experience erratic job schedules with lower wages. They made an action that can awaken the company about their needs. Conclusion Managing a firm was hard especially when the economy is in the stage of difficulties. There are lots of things to consider when it talked about your employee. In Hyundai problem regarding with their employee they must think an alternative strategy that cannot affect the labor and working conditions of their employee. Recommendation The Hyundai says that peace must start from home but how they give peace if their employees are rebelled with them.
