Working conditions were harsh for the American industrial worker in the 1800s. With the boom of the Second Industrial Revolution and the need to expand business to meet consumer demands, employment opportunities opened at a rapid rate. In order to maximize profits, however, workers were given very few luxuries. Most factories had deplorable working conditions and were unsafe. Many workers lost hearing from loud machinery, lost limbs in hazardous equipment, and even lost their life due to the apathy of factory owners.
However, since being among the main labor union in America, the UAW has organized several industrial actions includes strikes and sit–down that have interrupted operations in big industries for example General Motors. This could means that employees and management do not have strong relationships. The “Front face” of BA is heavily unionised. Thus resulting in employees being unsatisfied with the management of the business which later could impact the businesses relationship with its stakeholder through the recession, however this strategy in the long run could result in employees not losing their jobs as BA are benchmarking their competition who significantly seceding in the recession without tarnishing its relationship with its employees.
Labor Union strikes were the most prominent form of worker insurrection against employers. During the period of 1875-1900, many labor unions participated in strikes, however many of them failed to achieve their goals. The biggest reason that farmers and workers went on strike was clearly stated by a machinist before the Senate Committee on Labor and Capital. Because machines were taking jobs away, workers would lose their livelihood, and most likely their only source of income. In the year of 1877, employees working for the four largest railroads went on strike due to the fact that their employers cut their wages by 10 percent; this was known as the Great Rail Road Strike.

The destruction caused by protesting labor workers gave the industry a bad name in society. Anger and resentment brought out violent acts among the protesters struck fear in the general public. The Homestead Strike The Homestead Strike was held at Carnegie Steel Mill, and was famous for the struggles between the Labor Unions, and the Business owners around the late 1800s. Many of these struggles turned very violent, which caused many to get hurt. The Labor Unions (Organization of workers) were wanting higher pay, shorter work hours, and upgrade safety conditions for the members. Many Business owners think that Union is an act of trying to take charge of the business owners right to run their company as they please. The owners also don't like the fact that the Union Leaders can call a 'Strike' when the workers feel threatened with their job.

On top of all this going on in Michigan the country started hemorrhaging jobs everywhere, banks collapsed, the housing industry, and the auto industry and then it affected the small business owners. When I was doing the research for this essay I cried and cried. Story after story was heartbreaking. Then I got angry at the government (state and federal), and our Governor in this great state of Michigan.
