Many of the aquatic invertebrates are responsible for keeping the ecosystem clean by feeding on litters. Extinction of theses invertebrates would totally disrupt the balance of the ecosystem. The aim of this study is to bring awareness about the harmful impact global warming has on the local aquatic invertebrates and on the ecosystem at a global scale. The hypothesis for this study is that the biotic diversity of the slow moving water and fast moving water are driven by abiotic factors. To support this hypothesis, three predictions were made.
NGOs usually focus in developing countries, where many are in poverty have very little basic resources if any. They usually vary on small local projects e.g. clean water from the ground and ensuring it is safe to drink. According to WaterAid, their strategy is to promote and secure people’s rights and access to safe water, improved hygiene and sanitation. In Bangladesh, the wells were poisoned making the water contaminated and dangerous to drink.
In South Africa water is used out to its limit, the pollution comes from traffic associated with crude oil transport from the Arabian Gulf which is contaminated from tanks that spill oil. Some ways we pollute the Everglades, is because of some of the stuff that goes down the drains. Most of the stuff goes into a lake, pond, or canal, most these are connected to the ocean and Everglades. We have to watch what we let go down the drains, such as chemicals, and trash. I think if we make a way where trash that goes down a drain can be separated from the water and goes into another drain leading to a dump.
Beach closures have also been more frequent being something many families, and residents have once enjoyed. These toxic chemicals have been found in fish and wildlife, which have been deposited into the lake by manufacturing sites and other industrial companies. (Glutting, 2003)Runoff pollution, pollution that comes from a single location has also added to the lake’s devastation. Storm water, irrigation runoffs, sediments, fertilizers, and fecal matter deposits, are some of the discharges contributed by sewage treatment plants. These runoffs have contributed to the beach closures, and the unsustainable condition of biological life in the lake.
Using at least 1 scholarly source, discuss what type of affects these contaminants (oil, vinegar, detergent) might have on a town’s water source and the people who drank the water? Answer = "When water chokes you, what are you to drink to wash it down?" Aristotle, Nicomachean Ethics, 384-322 B.C.” According to Wisconsin Natural Resource, “Everyday activities can affect groundwater quality. Think about the ways you
Royte’s excerpt makes many views of the effects of tap water and the different types of problems associated with drinking it. In many areas, they say it is okay to drink the tap water but there are a few instances where the water needs to be filtered. She explains the different types of bacteria’s in tap water around the United States but she does tell how the bottled water companies do not answer to the public and how they are being untruthful about their purification of water. Although she believes they are untruthful, she provides little evidence of that. She is being quite vague about her conclusion that water bottles are not the best source of water.
“Our Gas Guzzlers, Their Lives” by Nicholas Kristof shows the readers how our actions and usage of gas and out green house gas emissions are not only damaged to the environment but to people around the world. Nicholas Kristof shares very touching and eye opening stories and facts in his article, “Our Gas Guzzlers, Their Lives” that show how our actions are effecting our environment and people around the world more than we know. Kristof focuses most of his attention in Bujumbura, Burundi which is located in Africa. Burundi is reported to be the poorest country in the world, with an average income of only $100. With life expectancy rates only at a young 45 and one in five children dying before they even reach 5, our greenhouse gas emissions and gas usage is not making anything better but actually helping cause deaths, as well as food and water shortage which are leading to more starvation and poverty.
Even some states allow fracking to be exempt from state water use regulation, an agreement limiting large water withdrawals; despite the fact that each fracking well uses up to five million gallons of locally sourced water. In the article, Should Fracking Stop? The authors provided information that there are water recovery tanks. These water recovery tanks contain polluted flow-back water that gets injected to a deep storage well and eventually it is sent to a treatment plant. It’s a waste because clean water is not an abundant resource and it will eventually run out.
For many decades, water pollution has been a major environmental issue. "Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies and occurs when pollutants are discharged directly or indirectly into water bodies without adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds" (Wales). Lake Huron, which is known as the third largest of the lakes by volume of Great Lakes, (Lakes Huron) water quality has been of major concern. Few major sources identified were faulty septic systems and agriculture. Some of the effects caused by the pollution included: disruption of aquatic life, elevated levels of nitrates and phosphates from polluted underground water, swimming prevention, and numerous outbreaks of Avian Botulism.
Another item pointed to pesticides, fertilizers and road salt as additional contributors to the pollution problem. And even further a New York Times article spoke about the algae blooms resulting from phosphate pollution. The lake has experienced a decline in its fish production attributed to the “dead zone” resulting from algae blooms. Further, the fish caught have ingested plastic and plastic the article argues attracts chemicals like bisphenol A (BPA) a contaminant said to affect the endocrine system. This
