Human Environmental Hazards

298 Words2 Pages
Week 4 Individual Work There are four categories of human environmental hazards. They are cultural, biological, chemical, and physical. We’re going to discuss each category in this essay. Cultural - socioeconomic status, oil price hikes, the global market, money, unemployment, political pollution, corruption… all society and humanity. This basically means that we are killing ourselves. Oil price hikes, the global market, money, unemployment, the whole nine yards of the cultural category are all stress factors that slowly but surely kills us. Biological – bacteria, fungus, swine flu, virus… all laboratory things. These things get out of control in our environment and can and will make us sick. They all have the potential to kill humans and animals. Chemical – solvents, solutes, acids, pesticides… all periodic table elements. These are all things we use every day. Chemicals in cleaning solutions and gasoline for our vehicles all have the potential to kill us if we ingest or inhale them regularly. Most household chemicals are regulated so that they can’t do us harm, but some people with allergies cannot use them at all. Physical – temperatures, noise, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, drought, hurricanes, and ultraviolet rays… all nature related things… things we have absolutely no control of whatsoever. We can try to predict when these things are going to happen, but to know exactly when is another story. Many people go to the beach and don’t realize that without using some kind of protection from the sun’s harmful rays, they can be putting their health at risk. I know now after reading up on these things that I’ll be much more careful when I’m out with my little boy and when I’m just cleaning house! Reference: Wright, R. T., & Boorse, D. F. (2011).
