Hug is defined by the Oxford dictionary as to clasp tightly in the arms, especially

with affection; embrace. Yet, a simple vocabulary with a simple action is hard to perform.   In

today’s technological society (Laptops, I Phone 4, and Skype), humans no longer need to

interact on a personal level. Yes, mobile phones, internet and other gadgets do help us in

contact in one another. These gadgets bring us closer as a whole, but at the same time they are

making us more distant from each other as individuals.   And I do believe the word ‘hug’ will

make a world a better place, big or small makes every difference.

It came to a surprise that not all people in the world would actually accept

physical hugs. But hugs can come in many ways: Handshake, pat on the back and even a

high five. Simple movements are always being overlooked although simple movements have

a huge underlying meaning. If you decide to go out to the public, without having a sign

showing a free hug campaign, I believe most people will just walk away and think you   are a

lunatic in the streets. It may sound ludacris but it is a fact that is without a doubt true

especially when you are a Malaysian. Often, people wake up in the morning with the Monday

blues feeling gloomy makes the day every gloomier.   I admit that I have been guilty in many

times. Being ignorant of one another, like S.A.R.S (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) flu,

it spread real fast unnoticed. It’s amazing how people pass on one another everyday

without a hint of smiling or even a slightest acknowledgement that you actually exist in the

world.

Even if you, holding a sign that says "FREE HUGS" people will just look at you and

think of you as a crazy person who goes around the town giving free hugs. Besides, the word
