Question 1 Organisations such as BHP would operate a number of different performance appraisal methods. In order to ensure the success of the method implemented certain processes need to be in place. Outline the processes and documentation an organisation such as BHP would need to have in place to successfully implement performance management. To start with, BHP would need to ensure their Position Descriptions are correctly documented, up to date and available to all employees and their managers. This will help in recruitmen to determine if potential employees are skilled enough and carry the right attributes and attittudes. It will also, more importantly, provide a baseline for job expectations for both the employee and their managers, and help with the Performance Management System as a whole. Performance Indicators would need to be consistent and outlined appropriately to the relevant employees by their managers. Performance Indicators are important to help employees prioritise their workloads, as well as motivate them to perform up to, or above, the expected standard of the Organisation. Performance Indicators must include an expected standard as well as a timeframe in which they should be carried out, and should be understood by all relevant employees. Performance Appraisal meetings need to be conducted as per the organisations policy, once a year at BHP. Meetings should be based on documented evidence collected during the Appraisal period, and should be documented and signed by both the manager and employee. Good Performance needs to be rewarded through a reward policy to motivate employees, and reinforce their good performance, as well as show appreciation and acknowledgement for their hard work.
