To what extent does weather and climate affect economic and social activities in New Zealand Weather and climate can affect people in a number of ways. But in general there are two; economically and socially. These include: farming, sport, tourism, health and clothing. Different regions have different patterns of climate and so it affects the economic and social activities differently. Farming is directly linked to weather and climate. Different climate and weather impact the growth of food. Take this as an example, dry, warm and sunnier weather of the Northland Region allows the crops to grow better; nevertheless the South Island has a cold and less sun shine in general, so it is better for dairy farming. For instance, pastoral farming is the biggest farming in New Zealand and it mostly take place in Northland Region where there are more sunshine and warmer. There is a wide range of sport in New Zealand. The mostly played are soccer, rugby and golf. Weather and climate may affect all them by wind, temperature and precipitation. For incidence, when you are playing golf, the wind act in a very important job. The wind may be blowing to any directions and it may blow your golf ball into the lake; Wellington wouldn’t be a good place to play golf. Precipitation can affect all outdoor sports. The court will eventually be very slippery so players might fall onto the ground; you might also get certain illness if you stay out in rain for a long time, the Westcoast Region wouldn’t gone well. The temperature may influence a sport match by affecting the players. For example, if the temperature is too high you might get heatstroke; on the other hand, you might catch fevers if the temperature is too low.
