Understanding the BIOS and POST * Why is it necessary to use ROM for the BIOS and not RAM? It is necessary to use ROM for the BIOS because the data in the RAM is cleared when the computer shuts down, but the data in the ROM is always there for the BIOS to use * How do the POST beep codes make troubleshooting a computer start-up problem easier? The computer POST, tests the computer to make sure it meets the necessary system requirements and that all hardware is working properly before starting the remainder of the boot process. If the computer passes the POST, the computer gives a single beep (with some computer BIOS manufacturers it may beep twice) as it starts up and will continue to start normally. However, if the computer fails the POST, the computer will either not beep at all or will generate a beep code, which tells the user the source of the problem.
3. Memory module type, memory chip type used on the module, memory module speed, error checking, allowable module sizes and combinations, the number of modules needed per bank of memory, whether the system requires or supports dual-channel memory, the total number of modules that can be installed. 4. Most commonly found memory modules in PC compatible personal computers and workstations. Stores its information in a cell containing a capacitor and transistor; these cells must be refreshed with new electricity every few milliseconds allowing the memory to keep its charge and hold the data as long as needed.
Raymond Henson Course Number: NET 790 Course Title: PC Support I Assembling a Computer Will I’m going to teach you how to build your own computer. I’ll explain each step and walk you through the process in this paper. So if you follow each step in order you should be able to build your own computer at home. Step one you will want to pull your case out of the box it was shipped in. I normally place a soft cloth on the work space I’m going to build the computer on so it helps from scratching the case.
* Add a New solution for this case (make one up); Leave the status as "In Consideration" Enter your unique Case number here: | 224089 | Case #2: Tristan Garrett from the company "Cady Montgomery" called with the following problem: Their installed product "21.6 cu. Secure the Telecommuters computers before they are distributed. Use data encryption for customer data. | | Telecommuters try to repair or troubleshoot their own computers instead of calling technical support or taking the computer in for service. | Computers become inoperable and job duties can’t be performed or are late. | H | H | Require employees come to the office to complete work and turn in computers to IT for repair | Phoebe | Require computers with performance issues to be brought into the IT department, or configure remote desktop for routine maintenance at regular intervals.
However, before you began the updating process you need to look at the hardware compatibility of you machines with the Windows 7 program. Due to the fact that you want to move from the Windows XP operating system to the Windows 7 operating system and not having ever installed the Windows Vista operating system means that you might be at risk for more compatibility problems between the program and the machines. With going this was you would need to preform a Clean Installation would have to be performed; meaning that aside from any settings that are able to be moved via one of the migration tools, it would be necessary to perform a backup of all of your machines in order to keep from permanently losing any important files or documents. Ultimately I would recommend to you to run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisory on any system that you want to upgrade. In doing this it will tell you if there are any compatibility issues on each machine.
Some of the requirements would include strict control enforced via one-time password authentication or public keys with strong pass-phrases. Also, anyone trying to gain access must not be connected to any other network at the same time, aside from personal home networks under the user's complete control. Further, employees with access must not use email accounts other than the company's standards, so that personal use won't be confused with business. Users must have approved virus control and spyware protection in place on all devices accessing the company network. Remote access will be limited in certain areas, while at least Applications will be approved for access (Shared application data is an important part of Richman’s network).
Unit 7 Assignment 1: Video Summary 5 Explain BIOS: Basic Input/ Output System * BIOS tells the hardware how to operate with the computer’s Operating System * BIOS is built into the motherboard and is standard on all computers * BIOS can be used to tune the computer’s hardware * A specialized key stroke is used to enter into BIOS before the system fully boots up * BIOS can only be navigated using key strokes (mouse will not work) * The first Tab shows the different types of internal hardware connections your computer has, IDE and SATA, along with what is connected to them (i.e. DVD Rom drive, hard disk) * Under Advanced Tab, CPU configurations can be changed if options are available (i.e. overclocking) * Under Power Tab, outputs are shown for power outputs of hardware devices (i.e. voltages used and cooling fan speeds, and temperatures of hardware * Under Boot Tab, you are allowed to set up the sequence in which the computer will boot up from (i.e. hard drive, CDROM, or Removable) * Under Exit Tab, You are given the option on how to exit from BIOS with or without saving changes Explain POST: Power On Self Test * POST is a test to determine a computer’s hardware is not faulty before it boots * When a problem occurs BIOS will register an error * A sound messaging speaking is located on the motherboard that will issue a series of beeps when a problem is found.
I have to act in the person’s best interest but instead of encouraging them to avoid risks I have to support them and enable them to taking part in activities. I have to act in the individuals best interest, keep them safe, carry out risk assessments, promote informed choices but also respect their decision and right to live their life as they choose. If the risk seems great to me I would document it and discuss the matter with my manager. Another area where duty of care dilemmas may arise are confidentiality issues. When a confidential information is shared with me and it concerns safeguarding and there is a possibility of harm or someone’s wellbeing is threathened I might have to make a decision and disclose this information.
I think that the government should have different methods on finding out who’s qualified for certain leadership positions. They should implement methods that observe and evaluate employees on the job doing the job. They should simulate challenges and different situations and base their promotions on those results. This is the only way of choosing a qualified candidate. It is very important for a job like this where lives are at risk, for your “street smarts” to be sharp, a paper and pencil test does not test for these skills.
