Resolutions made at the New Year often are a personal statement on what needs to be improved in one’s life. This includes reversals of unwanted bad habits and dreams for living more fully. These strategies are not complicated, nor do they require a vast amount of financial resources. These are the tried-and-true resolution techniques that have worked for people in years past. They only require a steadfast conscience, and the desire to achieve worthwhile goals. Science of Habit It’s been proven that all habits, good or bad, take at least 28 days to become embedded in the human psyche. This includes poor eating habits, addictions, and routines that contribute to a less-than-ideal lifestyle. When making a New Year’s resolution centered around any of these, realize that it may take just as much, if not more, time to overcome and beat an undesired habit or addiction. Plans The saying that one who “fails to plan, plans to fail” is extremely important when deciding a personal New Year’s resolution. No successful change in lifestyle ever happened without mental preparation and previous planning. One of the most popular resolutions is the promise to lose weight. By far, the majority of people making this resolution fail in their efforts because they fail to plan. Successful stories will reference meal plans, exercise and substitution examples as vital keys to their success. It’s never a good idea to make a New Year’s resolution on the cusp of the new year without a plan for success.
