How to manage culture differences In recent decades, globalization of business has brought culture differences into the focus of people all around the world. As a factor that influenced people’s behavior and sense of value, culture should undoubtedly be used as a potential energy that could motivate people, strengthen interpersonal relationship, and eventually promote the success of business. In this essay, I will make a brief introduction of culture differences between China and the United States. Finally I will come up with some suggestions on how a company that is faced with the differences could manage to turn them into advantages. 1. The comparison of cultures under the evaluation of framework by Philippe Rosinski. China is a country with a long history. On contrast, America is young with migrants from different parts of the world. It is by inquiring my American and Chinese friends that I realize the big differences of culture orientation between the two countries. The first difference is Time management approaches. Although both countries take time as scarce resource, in China, people emphasize history. When Chinese people select partners, they dig deep into the past performance. However, American companies focus on future development and strive for long-term potential. Then I noticed that Americans are collectivistic: they tend to work as a group. They are so collaborative that they can devote give in their own benefit to the benefit of the whole group if necessary. As for them, the success of the group ensures the well-being of the individual. However, Chinese do not seem to be good at teamwork. Most Chinese people put emphasis on individual satisfaction. There was one time when 5 Chinese scientists were awarded Nobel Prize for their invention, but they finally gave up the honor because only 3 people could be rewarded, but no one would give
