The Christian life! Does it have to be some dismal existence filled with nothing but stale ways of the past or can it be filled with excitement and joy? Is God still the Wonderful Creator who is the source of our joy (Psalm 30:11)? I want to share with you what I have learned on this subject while sitting in on a series on seminars lead by the former president of Davis College, . We need to be cleansed from our sins (Psalm 51). In Psalms 51 David expresses the importance in having a clean heart. After David committed adultery with Bathsheba he realized he needed forgiveness to be right with God. Just as David needed forgiveness, we need forgiveness to be right with God. Remember, no matter what sin you committed, it is all the same in God’s eyes. We need to be in the presence of God (Acts 2:28). If we want to learn to have joy, we need to learn how to stay in the presence of God. Although it is impossible for us to leave the presence of God physically (God is omniscient, He knows and sees all therefore it is impossible to leave him Psalm 139: 7-19), it is possible for us to leave God intimately. God gave us free will and He wants us to follow him with that will. There is a great joy for us in presence of God! God needs to be our delight (Psalm 37:4). What does it mean to delight thyself in the Lord? To know this we first need to understand what the word delight means. Delight means, to take pleasure in. So how can we take pleasure in our Lord. Think of the people in your life right now that you take pleasure in (mother, father, spouse, friends). Think of the reasons you take pleasure in them. You spend time with each other, you talk to each other, you invest in each other, and as a result of this, you love each other. Now think of your relationship with God.
