How to create a well-mannered society? A lot of things are going wrong these days. People don’t seem to care about moral and ethics anymore. Many more mar the beauty of their surroundings by destroying public property. There is no respect for time, place, space, friends, animals, or nature. Gangsterism is rampant. We shout. We hurt others. Is this the spiralling downfall of a society steeped high in culture and tradition? In my opinion, a well-mannered society can be created only when we learn how to show empathy towards people around us. In other words, a well-mannered society is possible only if every citizen is responsible and has the ability to discipline himself or herself. Firstly, in order to be well-mannered, one has to possess noble thoughts. Look at Mahatma Gandhi, Buddha, and Mother Theresa. They were pure in their souls and willing to help those in need. A well-mannered person is also punctual. He does not keep his friends and acquaintances waiting once an appointment has been fixed. He remembers dates and keeps to his words an honourable person doesn’t lie or cheat. He is responsible for his actions. He doesn’t have to bully others to show that he is macho. A truly well-behaved man would treat a lady with respect and would be a perfect gentleman at all times. A well-mannered lady, or the other hand, will be sophisticated without being crass. She will be able to hold her head up high without flaunting her wealth and authority and at the same time, be mindful of the poor needy. She will also train her children to be responsible and well-mannered. In addition to that, the people of a well-manered nation must have confidence and high self-esteem. We must be positive in our outlook and strive to bring glory to the nation. We must also be honest and kind towards one another. Parents
