Is College Worth it? Everyone in the United States wants to achieve the “American Dream”. People want to be able to provide a stable life for their families. A college education has been a must to grow in the work industry. But during this economic recession, college students have been having a difficult time staying in the college path, especially working class students.
Plagiarism Katrina, I understand your argument about this being common sense but I still have to argue that this is an act of plagiarism. You may have not intended to plagiarize and this act is called unintentional plagiarism. I do not want you to worry because it is better if you know now and learn as you are not the only one who has come across this issue. Plagiarism exists in two forms: intentional and unintentional. Plagiarism is done intentionally when someone copies someone else’s exact words and uses it in their own work without any quotations or citations and claims it to be their original work.
The best of the best will receive the jobs they worked towards and deserve. Judy had the drive to continue on to college and graduate with a degree. But she didn’t have the drive to search and find a job after that. Due to this, her degree has become useless. She could have chosen a more in demand major, or she could be the driven college student she once was and have the motivation to pursue her dream.
In high school I wasn’t educated about the other institutions other than four year universities. I never thought about or had the intention on going to a 2 year institution or a vocational training because that choice wasn’t provided. Inflation aside, this means college is getting more expensive. Unless your parents are wealthy enough to pay for your tuition or you worked your tail off to receive a full-ride scholarship, more often than not, you have to take out student loans to fund your education. As a result of the high price tag of getting an education, many graduates struggle when faced with the trouble of paying off that huge debt. It’s no longer a right to attend higher education. To many, myself included, attending college is now a luxury.
Many seek a higher education for employment purposes. There are a lot of people who are in classes only to achieve a raise or to get advancements in their jobs. Many students seem to think that they may only do the basic work in order to ‘skate by’. Professor X, in his article titled “In the Basement of the Ivory Tower”, seems to believe that many people attend college because they can; or they take classes based on the job market, not because they have a desire to learn. He is unhappy with the college system of today.

College right after highs school is not for everyone. I do believe that all people can benefit from a college degree when the time is right for them. Returning to college later in life can be the result of real life career experience and the realization of what it really takes to get ahead in life. Motivation, learning style, and career goals can have a great impact on your success or failure as an adult student. I tried college right after high school but dropped out because I felt like I was wasting time and money.
