political (defeat of the right –Bukharin), • Ideological (NEP hated by communists; class war against the kulaks; socialism in one country), • Strategic (i.e. defence of Russia)? Conclusion– Economic reasons provided one set of motives –but there were others. Were they connected? Which motives were most decisive?
This shows that violence was part of the Communist rule, and it was used in order to get their way. In an attempt to tighten Chinas political control, the ‘three anti-movement’ was introduced in 1951. This targeted the areas of waste, corruption and inefficiency. A year later, this expanded into the ‘five anti-movement’ which was intended to stimulate the economy by attacking; industrial sabotage, tax evasion, bribery, fraud and theft of government property. These anti-movements were the start of the political party hatred, in which it became clear that China was to be turned into a one party state.
Second, Castro was a charismatic communist and the US government feared that communism would spread. The United Stated wanted to create a new non-communist Cuba with a new leader and a new government that was friendly to them. Their goal was to overthrow Castro and his regime. The USSR and the US were the two super powers at the time and were competing in nearly everything during this period of time. The USSR was helping Cuba.
Mao adapted Communist ideas to China and he followed in Joseph Stalin’s footsteps by abusing his power and crippling the Chinese in fear with his totalitarian rule. In this essay I will be exploring the factors contributing to one of the biggest disputes in historical knowledge. Was Mao Zedong’s role in achieving communism genuine or has it been exaggerated and morphed by the Asian populations living under absolute despotism. “Idealism is no panacea in a totalitarian regime.” 1 - Quoted by a 20th century philosopher. It wasn’t said about Mao however it adapts to his ideas and aspirations.
I Introduction Invasion of the Body Snatchers sounds like the least political, and least historically accurate, movie ever made. However it is a key document to understanding major themes from the Cold War period. The Cold War was most prominent in the 1950s. It began with the two huge post WWII powers, the United States and the Soviet Union, having two very different views on how the new world should be run. The Soviets strived for communism, where everyone, at least in principle, had equal shares and no one was above another, while the United states wanted to spread their values of democracy to re-developing countries across the globe.
Many people ask the question, “Why did the U.S. even care about the Vietnam conflict, let alone fight a war there?” One Reason for U.S. involvement in the Vietnam conflict was that the U.S. feared the Domino Theory. The Domino Theory is where if one state falls to communism, then all the other states around it will fall into communism too. Because the U.S. feared this, they responded with containment. Containment means to keep communism from spreading to other countries. Another reason for U.S. involvement is imperialism, which was left over from WWI and WWII.
America, Great Britain and the USSR have been working together as members of the Grand Alliance as an attempt to defeat Nazi Germany. Although they were working together, their relationships weren’t always friendly and there was many disagreements which is part of the reason the Grand Alliance broke down. America and Great Britain were Capitalists countries where as the USSR was a Communist country so there was disputes between all of the superpowers. The USA is to blame for the breakdown of the Grand Alliance for many reasons. After Roosevelt died Truman became the American president.
With Russia being a communist country this created hatred between the Nazis and the Communists. This is probably the main reason that the whole invasion of Russia (or Operation Uranus) took place. Internationalism- The promotion of the belief in global cooperation rather than national rivalry. This is how the Soviet Union was run
Overall, despite the negative sides Trotsky’s actions they allowed the Communists to win the war. Furthermore, War Communism was a major factor that allowed the Communists to win the war. It was introduced by Lenin to completely replace capitalist economic system with communism. War Communism involved the Supreme Economic Council (Vesenkha) being formed on 2nd December 1918. This Council was responsible for running the economy.
Liberal-country party coalition took advantage about growing nervousness over ALP public enterprise policies, including bank nationalization and public resentment over continued wartime rationing of petrol and other necessities. Also the brutal put down of the coal-miners strike dividing the ALP and allowing Liberal coalition to take advantage of cold war fears by suggesting ALP contained communist sympathizers (Menzies blamed communists for the strikes and shortages) Cold war foreign policy in the Menzies era Propaganda war, ASIO files, social reformists, artists, lecturers ect labled communists. Korean war- Australia one of first nations to offer military aid. Supported by ALP as showing support for UN. However main motive for australias involvement was that the USA is taking Brittains place as australias main military
