How influential are Parent and Peers on Adolescents Antoinette Liggins University of North Florida DEP 3054-85448 I had the pleasure of having three adolescent sisters visit my home for about a week. I took them to the beach, the mall, different restaurants, and just allowed them to hang around the house. I decided to observe them in these environments, record their behaviors, conversations, as well as just talked to them about their views on life. During the observation I found that these were some very confident young women but their confidence crossed the border to pure arrogance. I also found that how they are viewed by their friends and family dictates their actions. Anything different or outside of their realm of thinking is not acceptable in their world. What their mother thinks and says is what matters most to them and any conflict with that may result in negative actions from them. Observing this made me curious as to what exactly influenced their attitudes. Kierra age 15, Angel age 14, and Lexi age 12 are from Dallas, TX visiting Florida for the first time. This was their first vacation so far away from their mother. About 80% of the girls’ life was lived in a home with both parents. Their parents divorced recently, dad moved to another state, remarried, is wealthy, and has a new baby on the way. Their mom verbally blames their dad for her depression and each time the girls can’t have something they want, he is said to be the reason. Physically they are considered very over weight, wearing size 22 and above. Their physical appearance follows chronological age (oldest tallest and slimmest). Their style of dress was very tight and very short no matter what articles of clothing they have on. They said their mom says the tighter it is the more it is associated with females and any loose clothing makes them look like a male. When out and about they
