Although the conditions of the agreement seemed extremely severe, the allied countries had no sympathy for the Germans. They were forced to pay excessive amounts of money as reparation fees to make up for all the damage and destruction that was caused during the war. 13% of German territory was given away and many important industrial areas were controlled by western allies. This caused a major impact on the economy and had many affects to not only the government, but German citizens as well. Many people became unemployed and were no longer able to support their families.
They were far from perfect leaving many people unhappy with them. To resolve the issues brought about by the Articles the Constitution was produced to mend the flaws of its antecedent. Many people felt the changes brought to the government by the Constitution proved to be an extremely radical departure from the old government that had been established by the Articles and proved too weak for the new country.
This made the Romans prone to injuries and “because they have no armor, think about running and not fighting” (Document B). Because of the loss of troops from the loss of armour, the Roman army’s numbers diminished. No soldiers were drafted since many groups were exempted from joining the army. This lessened the defences and security of Rome, and Rome became weaker. Another primary reason of Rome’s decline was a series of foreign invasions.
The collapse of the housing market and unemployment caused the most damage. Between 1991 to 1992 unemployment had gone back up to 2.6 million. Negative equity meant home owner were paying mortgages far higher than their homes were worth. Many people could simply not keep up with the increased prices and resulted in them losing their homes due to the bank repossessing them. The recession hit close to home for the Tories, effecting the middle class not just the working class of the industrial north.
Jackson and the Second Bank of the United States. The war of 1812 left our economy in turmoil. The banks had started printing more bank notes than they could back to pay off the debt accumulated during the war. This only made things worse by causing high inflation. Also in the wake of the war our national credit score had dropped dramatically and was close to a record low making it nearly impossible to finance necessary operations of the Federal Government.
“Why was Russia so hard to govern in the 19th Century?” Russia was so hard to govern in the 19th Century due to the political situation, angry people and diverse economy. Firstly, the Tsar/ina was so out of touch with the public by the time it became possible for things to start changing in countries that even though they now had the power to make changes they wouldn’t know what needed changing by this point. This meant the relationship between the people and the Tsar/ina was so strained that it was hard to govern a country that weren’t in touch with their leader. Another leading factor was that the strained relationship and lack of support from their leader meant that the people were angry and so they did not trust their leader nor give them the support they would need to make changes for the benefit of the county. With a lack of communication on both sides and an unhappy country, it would have been very difficult to govern such a hostile environment as no members of public would have followed the laws or asks of their leader.
The treaty of Versailles greatly humiliated Germany forcing it to accept soul responsibility for the war. Another fault in this treaty was that it did not work as intended. The idea that Germany could ever afford to pay the reparations to full amount was ludicrous as it was already suffering from the defeat of war. These reparations caused runaway inflation throughout Germany. But perhaps the biggest problem of all was that those who created it themselves did not enforce
As it was them who started the protest which turned into a revolution and also they were the ones behind the mutiny of the troops. However, the military was having many problems such as the war was going horribly wrong with many casualties, poor commanding from officers and limited military resources and equipment. The peasants were doing the fighting and the dying. So this could be a small contributing factor to the fall of the Romanov's on several different reasons. Firstly the tsar did not help the peasants personally, but instead leave the burden to the prime ministers when they cannot rule like a democracy today.
Moreover, two decades after the Berlin Wall fell, the spread of democracy has stalled. Between 1988 and 1990, as the Cold War was winding down, prodemocracy protests erupted far from Eastern Europe, overturning dictatorships in countries as different as Indonesia, South Korea, Taiwan and Chile. After the Soviet disintegration, even Russia emerged as a credible candidate for democratic reform. It helped transform global geopolitics by triggering the end of the Cold War and the collapse of the Soviet Union. But it also set in motion events that significantly raised Asia’s profile in international relations.
Subsequently this caused the Ruhr Crisis, as the Germans were unable to pay the reparations on time so the French decided to invade Ruhr, as it was a major coal-mine of Germany providing a lot of their economy at the time. Hyperinflation in Germany made it impossible for them to pay reparations, this is where the currency is inflated at a very high rate and in order to try combat this the Germans printed more and more money, this however did not help the hyperinflation and actually made it worse. This made the French angry so they decided to invade the Ruhr to take their coal as to pay for the money needed from the late reparation payments. The Ruhr Crisis was during the mid 1920s when Germany was unable to pay their reparations on time and therefore France invaded the Ruhr, which was the biggest coal-mine in Germany at the time. The French thought that the German workers would work for them.
