Sociology examines how our behavior individually and in groups is influenced by social processes and what that means. In fact once you start seeing things with a sociological perspective – things will never be the same. Assess the relationship between sociology and social policy (33 marks) Social policy is generally thought of as tackling ‘social problems’, especially the welfare of the population. In order to understand this relationship, sociologists distinguish between social problems and sociological problems. According to Worsley, a social problem is some piece of social behaviour that causes public friction and/or private misery and calls for collective action to solve it. For example, poverty, educational under-achievement, juvenile delinquency and divorce may all be seen as social problems by members of society, and governments may be called upon to produce policies to tackle them. Worsley also said that a sociological problem id and pattern of relationships that calls for explanation.
The cultural diversity on campus can both positively and negatively impact students’ lives at university. Light asserts that the biggest change in American universities is the amount of diversity around campuses. Light states that “it is important to shape the conversation that accompanies any such challenge so that it becomes a constructive learning experience, not a simple fight for authority” (p. 159). Students should be made to realize that there will be differences in perspectives and opinions along with cultural differences however, they must be open to all this so that college experience becomes more meaningful to them. The strengths and limitations of using group interviews for investigating social class differences in university entrance. When using group interviews a lot of difference factors can influence a person’s choice about going into university. I will be looking at one of the main factors which is social class. When having group interviews about social class different things can influence what people say. I will assess this in my essay.
Michael J. Bugeja, director of the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication at Iowa State University and author of the article “Facing the Facebook” in The Chronicle of Higher Education, argues how informational technology has become a distraction rather than an educational tool in the classroom. Although, he acknowledges that social networks such as Facebook are “fascinating” innovative forms of social interaction; he argues that they have affected all levels of academe (Bugeja 1). In his article, Bugeja points out how students' addiction with technology is reflected in their enrollment in institutions. He says that students instead of basing their decision on the reputation of the institution; they rely their decision on the level of technology these institutions offer them. In addition, the author also mentions that technology has created a distraction to students.
Some students join CAB for the benefits. Most students I know from ULM want to be involved on campus. I could almost guarantee you that they’ve thought of CAB as a possibility to attain that goal. When you become a member of CAB, it could help you get into other organizations with ease. Another reason students join CAB is for the planning of events.
America depends on the generations of students who will be upcoming contributors of society. Education creates, provides, and prepares students. So you can assume that education is the base or building blocks to our great nation. In the readings of The Educated Student: Global Citizen or Global Consumer? By Benjamin Barber, The Student and the University by Allan Bloom, and Class in America by Gregory Mantsios, the connection between the three is the idea of how education is the key to the people’s future, how it classifies them, and how it builds a nation.
There are so many intricacies involved in the process; nevertheless, people are the most important element in creating justice for all, regardless of social status, color of skin, English language barriers, and cultural background (Theoharis, 2009). My major focus as a SJL is to empower and cultivate in my DACC colleagues in the advising center a passion for our students. A deep understanding of our students needs is essential in order to cooperate, and work together with a heartfelt passion to build a strong community college that practices equity and accessibility. By building strong relationships with our students and their families we can create a climate of belonging. This framework was provided in chapter I by Theoharis (2009), and is essential in sifting out bad practices, attitudes, established rules and guidelines, racism, and discrimination.

Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind and its functions. Sociology is the study of development, structure, and functioning of human society. With sociology we look at society and see how it effects the development of human beings and their lifestyles.
