“Though often studied within popular culture, television has been transformed by and has touched nearly every aspect of American life and institutions” (Katzman pg. 5). It is debatable that people might shape views as individuals with the number of issues that occur in our media. For instance, television shows can have an incredible effect on youth with fashionable clothes, makeup, cars. The American youth follow their favorite television shows, actors, and actresses.
Since kids are also watch tv, parents have more concerns of the way there kids think about violence they see, read or hear. Also the media violence can affect people in many ways.Some people start having serious fears of them being victims in real life. However, there are researchers that say they have discovered that when they show violence on television it shows children to be not be so sensitive to pain and suffering of other people. Crime drama has become one of the most popular TV genres in our society, taking up almost 20% of prime time. People like these dramas because they deal with themes and issues that they know from news and current events.Also important as the themes and issues that the dramas deal with are the things the characters care about and the way they act.
Violence on T.V is a major factor that influences most children. The saying: “Monkey see, monkey do” has become a well-known saying around the world, but is it true? Violent programs and images on television, also in the movies, have motivated people to set their children on fire, do dangerous stunts, murder, steal, rape, and a lot of other stuff. It’s proven that media violence can have harmful affects on children. It increases their aggressiveness and behavior; moreover, it makes them want to see more violence in T.V and in real life.
Crash The movie crash does a very good job exposing how common stereotyping people really is. Many people are affected by this every day. I really hope this movie helped people realize how much they affect people by what they say or how they act towards people just based off of stereotypes. Stereotyping is defined in our book as exaggerated generalizations associated with a categorizing system. Stereotypes may be based on a kernel of truth, but they go beyond the facts at hand and make claims that usually have no valid basis.
