This is also a contradiction in the same sense. Gladwell needs to decide if success is based off of the factors we cannot control such as financial situations and heritage, or if success is based off of controllable factors such as passion and dedication. I am going to go with the latter. Of course, it is more difficult to become a success if one is born in a lower-class; however being in a lower-class gives a person much more incentive to work hard for a better life. Gladwell points out that most success stories are alike.
They feel that they do not have time to take care of themselves, so they continue to hesitate between these two spaces. Thanks to research in Positive Psychology, we know that this way of approaching work, does not work as it is backwards. I believe if we can find a way of becoming positive in the present, then our brains work even more successfully, as we’re able to work harder, faster and more intelligent. 6) What are the implications or consequences of the speaker’s conclusions? The only issue I could think of would be people are not sure that this constant focus on happiness is healthy or desirable.
Macbeth and Red Maggies rise raises expectations Ambition and desire can be both good and bad. Without ambition we wouldn’t have leaders, a drive for success and we wouldn’t push ourselves to excel at life. Yet if you take your ambition too far you can end up destroying your own moral code. You can lose your life, your good name, your family and every single inch of yourself. People’s desires aren’t needs but wants.
Anthony Tedesco Mr. Sorgini ENG 4U1 3 December 2013 The Motif of Sight and Blindness The amount of determination and ambition that a human is able to posses is one of the strongest forces known to man. However, humans often fail to realize that the determination and ambition of ones self could lead to their blindness of reality. The fact that they will go to great lengths to get what they want makes them susceptible to become blind, making them oblivious in their judgments and actions. Such ambition and determination could extract the morals of one in terms of achieving a long awaited goal or dream. Something such as the American dream has that tendency to extract those morals from humans, whether they are living the dream or are still aspiring to attain it, humans prove themselves unable to move beyond the past and end up in the loop of the corrupt American dream.
Challenges: How they can make you a better person Every day we are faced with challenges we must overcome, some challenges we face are harder than others and we may require help to break through the barriers we face. If we do not succeed with the challenges that are thrown at us, then we do not grow as an individual. With Dr. Malcolm Sayer in the movie Awakenings, he has trouble with people. At first Dr. Sayer cannot face any challenge that requires him to interact with people unless it involves the things he is passionate about, such as work. Dr. Sayer seems to be a lonely man with severe social anxiety, he would much rather be at home reading or studying his plants than interacting with people.
Dubose take on an unwinnable challenge and they are aware of their own limitations. But still they proceed to fight the battle that they will lose in the end. Atticus takes a case that is impossible to win but hopes to win the appeal, Mrs. Dubose gets rid of the addiction, but she knows that she going to die. Atticus, like Mrs. Dubose, also knows just winning Tom’s appeal will not win the war of racism. Atticus’ courage shows to be more moral in the book because he is doing this for everyone and not just himself.
The snide comments from his fellow team mates still don’t bring his spirit down. Gerardo is ready to compete and believe in himself even if it means standing alone without his team or coaches support. He knows if he has confidence in himself that soon enough others will too. Without struggle there is no progress, if you imagine and believe you will achieve. Only Gerardo knows him limitations and can define them himself, he doesn’t need someone to hold his hand to conquer the world.
Working in a place that has a lot of stress either with co-workers or management will not inspire success, and it will eventually effect the organization financially. Communication is also very crucial to the success of an organization and it extends from the top to bottom and vice
This competitive nature has only increased over time and is now transcending into everything we do in life. No matter what the task, if someone else is doing the same thing, humans have the urge to compete with them. Things such as getting the best grades, getting the best job, making the most money, people are always striving to be the best at what they’re doing. This competitive attitude is very important because without it, we would have nothing, no telephones, no lights, and no cars. People would be content with what they have and would have no desire to make something better.
If a person continues to deny what God has for them, then their lives will not be happy. “When we take things into our own hands, we have the feeling of being in control. But what or whom do we really control.” (Anderson, 2003, p. 281) There is one problem with someone who is rebellious. They will not want to hear any truths or be shown anything in their lives that they may need to work on. They may think that they are happy and that their lives are going along well, but they will soon find out that they are wrong.
