Every student dreads getting pressured with their studies. But unfortunately, academic pressure is constant in everyone's life. Because admit it or not, school can be quite demanding to its students, especially in college. With the numerous requirements, exams, and activities they need to juggle with almost every day, getting stressed is inevitable. And almost everyone knows that being in constant pressure and stress can only lead to not so good consequences like poor performance in class or getting sick. But despite all the negative effects pressure entails, it can still be beneficial and advantageous. Though it may be quite unbelievable, pressure can actually affect a person positively. One great effect of pressure is that it heightens efficiency. Many students claim that they work better under pressure. They say they can think easier and do their job faster when they battle against time and try to beat deadlines. Some even say a person can become his/her most creative at times like this. Consequently, this may be the reason why several students prefer cramming their papers the night before the deadline instead of doing it earlier. The reason why this happens is because as the brain perceives stress when one is pressured, the body secretes stress hormones that enable them to enter their so-called zone or their area of best performance. One of the hormones released is “adrenaline.” This hormone can increase a person’s awareness and alertness enabling him/her to concentrate and focus much better on the task at hand. Thus, making it easier to think critically and develop better opinions. It can also improve memory and sharpen minds making it much easier to organize one’s thoughts and ideas. (Simon) Another positive effect pressure gives is serving as motivation. Most people think that pressure can push a person into giving up but, it can actually be the opposite.
