September 11, 2001: Disasters Strike America September 11, 2001 was a tragic day in the United States. Al Qaeda suicide hijackers crashed American Airlines Flight 11 and 175 into the World Trade Centers in New York. Two other groups of hijackers crashed Flight 77 into The Pentagon and Flight 93 into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The 19hijackers killed approximately 2,998 people, including themselves. Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower at 8:46 a.m. Eastern Time, and 17 minutes later, Flight 175 crashed into the South Tower.
On September 11, 2001, 19 terrorists from the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda caused the most deadliest attacks on American soil in U.S. history. There were a series of four (4) airline attacks in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania killing over 3,000 people (Encylopaedia Britannica). At 8:46am, the first plane struck the north tower of the World Trade Center and seventeen minutes later the second plane struck the World Trade Center’s south tower. After the third and fourth planes struck the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania, respectfully, for the time the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) banned all aircraft flights in U.S. airspace, the ban was kept in place for two days. The 9/11 attacks caused records losses in world markets, closing trading for four days.
September 11, 2001, is a date in which will be remembered in the minds of Americans forever. Four commercial airlines were hijacked. The hijackers intentionally crashed two of the airliners World Trade Center in New York City, killing everyone on board and many others working in the building, and also killing an estimated 343 firefighters. The hijackers also crashed a third airliner into the Pentagon. The fourth plane crashed into a field near Shanksville in rural Somerset County, Pennsylvania, after some of its passengers and flight crew were said to attempt to retake control of the plane.
18 October 2011 Analysis Essay September 11, 2001 On September 11, 2001, three planes were hijacked and flown into both World Trade Center buildings, and the Pentagon, killing hundreds of people. This picture was taken in New York on the morning of the attacks on the World Trade Center. It shows three average looking men, walking through the ash and dust with some sort of purpose about them. They could be looking for loved ones amongst the rubble, or they could just be trying to find a way out of the carnage. This photo is incredibly dark and morbid looking, which is fitting for the day on which it was taken.
They also attempted to crash United Airline Flight 33 into the Capitol building, but the passengers tried to take control of the plane and ended up crashing the aircraft into a field located in Pennsylvania. The attacks resulted in the deaths of 2,996 civilians. News reporters caught multiple civilians jumping out of buildings hundreds of feet above ground, killing themselves trying to escape the burning jet fuel. Four hundred and eleven emergency rescuers died while trying to save lives in the burning buildings. This awful tragedy will remain in my life and I will take this horrible memory to my grave.
The buildings went up in flames as people attempted to flee from the ash, steel, glass, and bodies falling from above. Both buildings, which took a total of eight years to construct, collapsed in less than 90 minutes. That same morning, at 9:37, a third plane crashed into the Pentagon, just outside of Washington. The date of September 11th, 2001 will without doubt forever be remembered as one of the most tragic days in American history. That day, two passenger airplanes were hijacked by terrorists and were flown into the Twin Towers in New York City. The impact of these airplanes caused the buildings to collapse and in result tragically claimed thousands of lives. Nearing the end of such a catastrophic day, President George W. Bush addressed the nation and delivered a powerful speech. Although his audience were not only the American citizens but also other worldwide leaders and citizens, he was mainly addressing the citizens of America as they were the ones who were mostly affected.
This began to severley mark and tarnish American relations with European nations, as American soldiers were seen to be careless and vengeful. “There were more than 2,000 casualties [at the Battle of Caen] on the first two days, and in a way it was miraculous that more people weren't killed when you think of the bombing and the shelling which carried on for days afterwards. September 11th 2001 Through My Eyes On September 11th, 2001 New York City witnessed one of the worst terrorist attacks in history, if not the worst. Ten Al Qaeda members hijacked two airplanes in mid-air and each was flown into one of the World Trade Center buildings eventually causing the 110-story buildings to crumble down killing 2606 people. Ten years later on September 11th, 2011 the 9/11 memorial was opened to the public. I had the opportunity to visit this memorial with my class and the experience was mind-boggling. After all that happened on 9/11 and all the crazy people out in the world I was really surprised about the fact that there was a lot of security to get in to the memorial but not nearly as much as I would have
