Chapter 15 Review Questions: 4, 8, 12, 13, and 16 4. How would you identify and choose the stakeholders who should be involved in the formulation of a tourism policy for a region? Is there anyone whom you feel should be excluded from the process? I think that the native population of the area should have the biggest say in what happens to the environment, because those are the people whose homes reside there, and who have a vested interest to keep their country beautiful and productive. I think that any representative working on a solution for a particular area should have strong ties to the area him or herself. I generally do not support large businesses, especially manufacturing or similar, from having a say in the tourism policy, because large companies are usually interested in mostly their own profitability and care little for the environment or long term success of the location. 8. What are the most important interfaces of tourism policy; that is, which other sectors of the economy and society need to be aware of tourism policy or might have a significant impact on the success of tourism policy? I think on an overall scale pretty much all sectors of the host economy need to be aware of and make provisions for tourism, but some of the major ones include: government and taxation services; the financing sector; the transportation sector; the environmental sector; the manufacturing and industry sector; the security sector; the technology sector; and, the human resources and labor administrations. 12. Why is a vision especially important for policy formulation? How long into the future should a vision attempt to define an ideal future? I think that having a vision is very important, even crucial, to policy formulation because it ensures the continued success of the destination, and it involves important planning steps that cannot be completed
