Hong Kong Sex and Cultural Festival 2011- a platfrom gathered voices from various social groups March 15, 2011 By Eunice Fung Sze Lut All the learning from this course is important to my life as it develop my lens on phenomenon and cultures of sexuality and gender. Transgender, homosexuality and sex work etc. are topics that I never touched in my 16 years of learning before. As growing up in a traditional Christian family, I am even discouraged from knowing more about these phenomenon or facts in the real world. After this semester, I know that I can no longer hide myself behind the wall from the real world. Instead, I have to step out from my comfort zone to look into the reality. The course not only broadened my horizon of the real world but also inspired me to find out more about sexuality and gender by myself. Therefore, knowing that there was a Hong Kong Sex and Cultural Festival being held, I undoubtedly got there alone. The reason that I decided to visit the festival was because I could meet people that I have learnt in the course life transgendered people, homosexuals, sex workers and social workers. I would like to interview them myself to know more about their real life. The latest Sex and Cultural Festival was held in 2008. It was not being held these two years due to the great noise it aroused from arranging naked models in a public drawing demonstration in 2008’s festival. This time, the theme of the festival is related to art which is aims to bring educational effects to the public. The organizer changes the bold style of the festival from the past. It wants to bring the public to see sex in an artistic angle. The event is happening in a school where forums, indoor exhibition, booths and dramas will be held during those two days. Hong Kong has long been agreed that there are no enough channels for public to receive well sex education.
