Ashley Boyer Ms. Wedge English IV – 03 22 February 2012 Argumentative Research Composition Homeless Veterans The American government and the American people should spend more time helping Veterans. Everyday Veterans are on the streets homeless and abandoned. Some Veterans are even suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, drug, and alcohol abuse. After having worked with the Veterans Affairs Medical Center since 2006, many homeless Veterans have been in good care. When hearing about Veterans on the street, it hurts me deeply. When an individual pictures a veteran, the image that pops up should be a strong healthy individual that is an exquisite roll model, and not someone on the street begging for food and trying each day to get by. Veterans are the individuals that fought for our country and saw things unimaginable, the people of the United States, couldn’t even imagine, and sometimes everyday people treat Veterans like dirt. Since having gotten older, understanding more things that go on around me include government matters. The government puts more money into other medical departments rather than giving more money to the Veteran Affairs to help homeless Veterans. (How does the government help War Veterans, N.p.) The government today has set up programs in which to help homeless Veterans. The government gives subsidized healthcare through the Veterans American Medical Center. Also through the Veterans American Medical Center and the government also provides free health care for any medical condition caused by military service. (How does the government help War Veterans, N.p.) Charities also play a big role in the aid of homeless Veterans. One of those charities would be the Fisher House Foundation. The Fisher House Foundation constructs facilities to house families temporarily while visiting patients in military and Veterans hospitals
