The principle Primum Non Nocere teaches the use of the least invasive methods necessary to allow the body to heal itself. A detailed look into a patient’s history and habits can help identify what level of intervention is required based on how severe their symptoms are. Another distinguishing factor of naturopathy from conventional medicine is the principle Tolle Totem. In order to find out the underlying cause of what might be making a patient sick enough time needs to be spent asking the right questions and investigating deeper than their symptoms. Good health is more
However, the basis of lupus treatment involves corticosteroids, a drug related to cortisol, a natural anti-inflammatory hormone. These are potent drugs, so doctors must seek the lowest dosage with the greatest benefits. Finally, immunosuppressives may be used for patients with kidney or central nervous system problems. These drugs restrain the overcharged immune system by hindering the production of immune cells. Although the symptoms of lupus can be uncomfortable and the complications life threatening, the disease can be managed and those suffering from it can maintain a high quality of life
New understanding of the communication between the brain and immune system provides a physiological explanation of why such cures sometimes worked. Disruption of this communication network leads to an increase in susceptibility to disease and can worsen the course of the illness. Restoration of this communication system, whether through pharmacological agents or the relaxing effects of a spa, can be the first step on the road to healing your mind and body (Sternberg & Gold, 2012). Unit 517 Lead Person Centred Practise (HSCM1) 1.5 Explain how person centred practise can result in positive changes for an individual. Person centred practise (PCP) places the individual at the centre of the care they receive and this can lead to a lot of positive changes. Before the use of PCP, treatment of an individual was based on their condition (medical model). Decisions are continually made for the individual as they are only defined as being independent once they overcome their disabilities. Taking away a person’s choices long-term may lead to ill effects such as withdrawal, depression, lack of motivation, lack of progression, delusions of over dependency, challenging behaviours, lack of opportunities and community access and institutionalisation.
Mr. Hudson complains of symptoms such as, dizziness, ringing of the ears, dry mouth and dry throat. According to the DSM IV-TR, I diagnose the “Edgy Electrician” with (GAD) Generalized Anxiety Disorder. A disorder characterized by chronic distress and anxiety. He qualifies for this disorder because he possesses some symptoms such as difficulty concentrating and being unable to control his worries, which are all symptoms of (GAD). “People with Generalized Anxiety Disorder report that the anxiety that they experience cause substantial interference with their lives and they need a significant dosage of medications to control their symptoms.” (Gerow and Chatmon 2013, p. 258).
For example, when a child is having to get a blood test done and is afraid and refusing to do, the nurse will look for a positive behaviour and then gives the patient immediate reinforcement by saying, “you are such a big boy” or “you did an excellent job”. Another time the behaviourist theory is used in health care is a classical conditioning it is done when the patient is recovering from alcoholism, they are given a drug mixed with alcohol which produces undesirable physiological effects such as nausea and vomiting. This helps the patient associate the alcohol with the horrible effects, making the needs and wants to avoid drinking alcohol, because the body has started to know the reactions while drinking the alcohol which is not necessarily true but because of the pain that the drug has caused changes their
The Bio-medical model has several assumptions that are accurate; it defines health as a biological normality it also believes that illnesses and disease are caused by an identifiable factor such as a faulty gene or virus. The model believes that illness is a temporary condition producing a physical symptom and that it should be identified and classified by a medical official not a non-expert. It is common for the experts that follow the bio-medical model to focus solely on diagnosing the symptoms of their patient leaving no room for dispute between the doctor and the patient. Illness and disease has cures and treatments usually from removing the cause, medicine is seen as the way to solve health problems, and the health of society is seen as dependant on the state of medical knowledge and the availability of medical resources. The main strengths of the bio-medical model is that it stresses the importance of trying to find the cause of illness and disease; there is a wealth of evidence that support the bio-medical approach, including successful operations, cancer screenings and immunisation programmes.

Let’s imagine what it would be like. Dialysis by definition is a treatment that performs the functions of natural kidneys when they fail (Dialysis, 1999-2012). The purpose of dialysis is to help keep the body’s chemicals in balance, which kidneys do on their own when they are healthy. The main function of dialysis is to remove waste and excess fluid from the blood to prevent build-up, to control blood pressure, and to keep a safe level of chemicals in the body such as potassium, sodium, and chloride (Dialysis, 1999-2012). According to the Mayo clinic, people with chronic kidney disease leading to kidney failure are the most appropriate reasons for a transplant of the kidney or kidneys.
Bearing with a patient, especially an elderly patient who might be a little slower at comprehending medical terminology can make all of the difference in the world. Medical terminology can be overwhelming to those who study medicine, so to a carpenter or super market manager it can be extremely flustering, so it is important to break down the meaning of the diagnosis to avoid the patient feeling lost. Doing this adds to the patients comfort which is crucial. Developing a trusting, healthy, doctor-patient relationship can take healthcare to a whole new level. One can describe this phenomenon almost as a 'slippery slope' affect in the fact that having a positive, friendly bed side manner with a patient makes the patient more willing to trust the advice of the physician, leading to a faster treatment, ultimately making the patient better with ease.
