Zach Oney M. Harsh ENG 114 12/4/2011 Artemis Artemis was the goddess of the hunt and animals. She was the twin sister of the great god Apollo and daughter of Leto. Artemis is usually seen as the huntress wielding her signature bow and arrow and usually portrayed as being next to or carrying a stag, however, she is widely renowned for being one of the only two virgin goddesses among the Olympian gods. Because she is pure, she is the most respected goddess as she protects her virginity by any means necessary as well does she protect all the priestesses of her temples. Artemis may not be one of the most widely known goddesses but her role in how we view powerful women today.
Nichols chooses natural imagery that conveys power and essential life-giving forces to represent the great influence of her mother on her, like the sun, moon and oceans on the Earth. In addition, it implies that she feels her mother is genuine, natural and pure, as we make these associations with natural metaphors. In contrast, ‘Nettles’ also makes use of natural imagery to convey feelings, but in a negative way: “green spears”. Natural imagery is tied in with a semantic field of war
Eleanor is an example of an angel from heaven, the perfect role-model, the heart of humanity, and she was the kindest, most generous person I know. My mother is survived my sister, Anna, my brothers, James, John, Franklin Jr., myself, and thirteen grandchildren. I’d like to leave you today with this quote from my mother, "In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility."
Vivian( A Lesson Before Dying) is a lot like Beneatha( A Raisin in the Sun) in the stories. I believe that they are both strong women. They remind me of very classy women for back in there day. I think that Jefferson( A Lesson Before Dying) and Walter Lee Younger Jr. ( A Raisin in the Sun) are a lot alike. I think this because they take things very seriously.
Not only does Hesiod’s sexist attitude reflect in his writing, but also his stories all have a connection to the reality and social aspects of the world. Hesiod artistically develops plots to explain the purposes of the gods because the “muses called upon him to sing about the gods.” (Harvard university press, Theogony) The stories and gods initial interactions may be examples of finding reason for a natural phenomenon such as in nature, or rather trying to explain reasons for stereotypical double standards towards men and/or women. Hesiod makes many connections between the gods and the people. Hesiod strategically exemplifies Zeus as a third generation god, simply because it creates a realistic suspense that Zeus is that much closer
We took their wives and also much booty, which we divided equitably amongst us, so that none might have reason to complain”. (Homer, 800 B.C.E) in the middle of the chapters the men ruled the world and the woman were treated like dirt. The gods and goddess are the ones that ruled the world and the king and queen had to obey their every command and if not obey there would have been some consequences. As for the people they had to obey the king and queen in order not to be killed. They king and queen and their people will always be protected by the gods and goddess because they were always praying to the gods or goddess.
Loki, God of mischief, was known to be crafty, sneaky, silly, malicious, and a shape- shifter. “A myth has been told that Loki came up with contract for a Giant to build a protective barrier around the empire. As a payment, the Giant asked for the sun, moon, and the Goddess Freya if the work was completed. But, what Loki didn’t know is that the Giant had a stallion named Svadilfari, which could haul boulders. With three days to go, Freya was in distress and the Gods aghast.
In the first stanzas uses gentle words of empathy she referring to her as “A precious feather child” and Dove darling daughter.” She states “You have risen up the shield” and referred to her as an “Eagle woman, dear one” she has declared her a warrior. Recognizing, expecting mothers as warriors who hold the same worth as the men in battle. The midwife goes on to state “You made yourself a warrior for our lord though not without consuming all your strength and scarified yourself” (Bierhost 21,22). From this the Aztec has taught how to mourn death with praise rather than mourn but to rejoice and make it a joyous occasion. Although, though it is human to be grieve one has to remember like the Aztec religion often speak of being to the mother as a god that has gone onto a better place it states in Revelation 14:13 (New International Version) “Then I heard a voice from heaven say, Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on."
Inventions that are credited to the ancient Greeks such as the gear, screw, rotary mills, screw press, bronze casting techniques, water clock, water organ, torsion catapult and the use of steam to operate some experimental machines and toys and a chart to find prime numbers. Many of these inventions occurred late in the Greek period, often inspired by the need to improve weapons and tactics in war. However, peaceful uses are shown by their early development of the watermill, a device which pointed to further exploitation on a large scale under the Romans. They developed surveying and mathematics to an advanced state, and many of their technical advances were published by philosophers like Archimedes and
“And Adam called his wife Eve because she was the mother of all living” (Genesis 3:20). Motherhood of woman distinguishes her from everything else. A woman can be a mother, wife, sister and daughter. Women are the movers and shakers in the family. Their prayer and actions lighten the family.
