Hero vs Saint

The approach Professor Ambrosio took to explain the typology of the hero and the Saint, was rather interesting to me. In his first lecture, where he discussed the meaning of life and how we naturally try to figure it out couldn’t be any more true to me. Humans were put on this earth to try to conquer life and its meaning- the journey is often the answer. I believe only then we realize we have grown old and that our time is done here on earth, will we truly know the meaning of life and can reflect and come to the conclusion that all of the life lessons, trials and tribulations, hard times and good times, can be thrown together to give us the answer we have been searching for our entire lives. The term hero, has been used loosely in the American culture. A hero to me, is someone who sacrifices something of themselves, to help in the aid of someone else. Heroes can be seen everywhere, daily, if you look close enough. Frequenting New York City, I see several daily- cops who have risked their lives to save others, firefighters who have put themselves and their families at risk so they could save the lives of others. I also consider not just such a complex job, but even people who volunteer at old age homes to bring smiles to the faces of the elderly that are forgotten by families everywhere. I feel that heroes are more often challenged morally than saints. These people are heroes to me, and I agree with Professor Ambrosio’s definition of them as well. Saints, to me, are seen as people of holiness and of virtue, and are the standard operating model of human beings. Unlike heroes, Saints aren’t challenged morally, because they don’t do wrong. If a hero was placed in a position where he had to shoot a bad person, in order to save a good one, they would. A saint on the other hand, I feel would leave it up to god and ask the lord to remedy the situation. I
