With exposure and injury being the focus nationally, changes are beginning to occur to decrease the work related illness and injuries. The attempt to eliminate workplace hazards by changing designs in and around the workplace will result hopefully in success of healthy lifestyles (Healthy People, 2012). Dell, Pepsi Bottling Group, General Electric, and the State of Alabama’s wellness programs are clearly focused on preventative healthcare. These wellness programs are designed to detect the four leading causes of serious illnesses; high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high glucose levels, and a high body mass index. It is common knowledge that each of these four health issues can and has lead to much more serious health issues when not treated in a timely manner. This is why one of the unique things about wellness programs is that they do not just result in monetary savings; they also save lives because of their preventative nature. Although the requirements that the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and federal statues have set for wellness programs are strict, it can be seen that companies Human Resource Departments are clearly creating wellness programs that will meet the standards of this criteria.

In particular, key social factors considered under this model include the impact of poverty, poor housing, diet and pollution on persons’ health. For instance, poor housing and poverty may prove to be catalysts to respiratory problems, and in response to these causes and origins of ill health, an objective of the socio-medical model is to encourage society to provide better housing and introduce programs to tackle poverty, and these propositions are seen as viable solutions. The socio-medical model encourages people to live healthy lifestyles, it looks at the cause of the illness and tries to change the factor that causes the illness to prevent it from continuing rather than only giving when diagnosis and only medical treatment. The factors which the socio-medical model suggest is also a cause of ill health such as poor housing, poverty and diet can have a strong impact on the over health and wellness of individuals, communities and countries. The model emphasises preventing and changing the cause of an illness on a more natural way instead of relying on medication.
This is due to machines prolonging life, medications are stronger when administered by a nurse versus a by mouth pain pill and due to rigorous disease treatment cycles (cancer, lung disease, HIV, Hep B/C, etc) Most patients that are able to relay information in their last days, would like to die a good death. By dying a good death, it can be explained as suffering from minimal pain, having friends and family around, and a non hospital setting. “Influenced by concerns regarding the care of dying people, scientific and debates about assisted suicide and euthanasia, strategic documents privilege the pursuit of a ‘good death’ by raising the profile of dying people’s needs and preferences, prioritizing choice, inviting individuals to plan for their dying and deaths and encouraging the use of end-of-life care pathways for the imminently dying.” (WATTS, T. T. (2012) It is critical to remember that few patients are admitted into the hospital because they want to be there. “It can become stressful when one comes to know that he or she is

Abstract Anorexia and bulimia are dangerous eating disorders that mainly affect women. The goal of Healthy People 2010 is to decrease the relapse rate of these disorders. Many factors, such as type of treatment centers, family and monetary support, and readiness to confront eating disorders play a major role in reoccurrence of the disease. In order to meet the Healthy People 2010 objectives, improvements in the current delivery of treatment and follow-ups must be expanded upon and improved. Physical inactivity is a preventable risk factor closely associated with mortality and poor health and combined with obesity can have a greater influence on one’s health. Health is undoubtedly more than the absence of diseases and illnesses. According to World Health Organisation WHO (2004), the social conditions in which people live in greatly influence their chances of getting good health. The important determinant of most diseases, death and health inequalities are factors such as poverty, unhealthy early childhood conditions, poor diet and being able to adapt to stressful situations in everyday life. The link between the determinant of health and actual level of health is not simple due to the fact that determinant of health are inter-related and interdependent, thus one outcome of determinant influences and generate the outcome of the other. Evident suggest that the important building blocks of adult health
