Social Working A social worker supports and protects people facing difficulties. They help clients conquer issues and improve their lives. There are many social service users including children and parents under pressure, older people, people with disabilities, learning disabilities, people with mental health problems, homeless people, people leaving hospital who need help to live independently and people with drug or alcohol addiction. To qualify as a social worker, you must have certain education requirements. You will need five GCSEs including English and Maths between grades A-C and at least two A levels/BTEC National Diploma or NVQ level 3 in Health and Social care. There are also some training requirements which you must meet. You will need experience of social work from voluntary, paid work, work placements or life experience. You will need a skill with problem solving, have good communication skills, and you must have patience as you will be working with other people. You will also need to learn about law, mental health, partnership, assessment, disability issues and intervention. You NEED to have excellent communication skills as you will be meeting a lot of new people. Also, throughout this job you will be meeting people at all ages so you must be able to relate to their backgrounds as you will need to gain their trust. You must be patient with all of your clients. You cannot have a judgmental attitude to anybody! You will need to be able to cope with all of the different and difficult situations which your clients are living with. You must always be on time as you are responsible for all of your clients. You will need to have outstanding organisation skills. You will also have to be good with your English Literature because you will be dealing with a lot of paperwork (this also means you will have to have good administration skills.) If you
