For toys to be developmentally appropriate, the toys and materials used to make them must meet the needs of children at a particular age and stage of development. When you’re an early childhood educator, you’ll need to know what’s developmentally appropriate for the children for whom you’re buying toys. When you’re selecting toys, you’ll need to consider each child who will use the toys. INSTRUCTIONS For this graded project, you’ll research the guidelines for selecting developmentally appropriate toys for a child in a specific age group. You’ll provide examples of three toys that manufacturers deem developmentally appropriate. You’ll provide all of the requested information and answer all of the questions. Part 1 You’ll research the appropriate guidelines for selecting toys for young children. This information is available on the Internet and in many early childhood publications. Then, write a short essay of 250 to 300 words about what to look for when selecting a toy for a young child. 1 Be sure to cite all of the Web sites and publications that you use to find your information. If you use an Internet article, provide the Internet address of the article. If you use an article from a periodical, include a photocopy of the article. (If you include photocopies with your project, you must submit it using the regular mail method.) Part 2 Select one of the following age groups: • 6 to 12 months • 1 to 3 years • 3 to 5 years
