Health Care Delivery Museum Morgan HCS/235 Health Care Museum The following paper is a proposal for the new health care hall of fame Museum. The Museum will be composed of five exhibits, which are the use of surgery, history on cleanliness of American hospitals, the discovery of penicillin, history about the social security act, and lastly the history of women entering the medical profession. The first part of this proposal for the museum will discuss the history and impact of these health care developments on the health care system. The second part will be an overview of how these five exhibits relate to each other in the health care system, Medicare Exhibit 1 Surgery became more common in the 1900s. It was used mainly for non-life threatening surgeries due to the lack of antibiotics and penicillin which wasn’t discovered just yet. Types of surgeries that were performed were mainly for removing tumors, or infected tonsils as well as appendectomies and gynelcological operations. Surgeries became less risky and less painful in this decade as well as the early 1910s. Medical Exhibit 2 In the 1910s, American hospitals are now modern scientific institutions valuing antiseptics and cleanliness. This relates back to the 1900s where surgery was still a little risky due to the lack of antibiotics. So now surgery was definitely less risky, and would even be safer when penicillin was discovered later on. This decade was also when medications started being used for the relief of pain. This decade was very important because more antiseptics and cleanliness of the hospital meant less germs, and better hygiene for the healthcare workers. Medical Exhibit 3 In the 1920s penicillin was discovered. This drug would save many lives. Penicillin is used to combat infection and disease. Although it was discovered in the 1920s it would not be able to be used until the
