Health Behavior and Lifestyle Part 4 – Conclusion At the beginning of this assignment I expected to explore how lifestyle choices have an association with certain health conditions and behaviors. The scholarly article opened my eyes to the patterns and behaviors of consumers which in turn equate to health patterns and behaviors. Many times we think, for instance, with the case of obesity that if one would change how much they eat or what they eat then they would be able to loose weight. While this may be true there are some many other contributing factors to when it comes to this health condition. Another astonishing fact that I learned was something as simple as hand washing in some impoverished countries has contributed too many premature deaths. The campaigns that Unilever was able to launch in these areas not only helped to save lives but changed behaviors. These behaviors in turn led to patterns of change that infiltrated throughout villages and boroughs. It’s not enough just to tell people they need to change, there must be options that are easily attainable and affordable made available if we want to impact change. I realized that health transitions and change have more than one stage – the obvious being physical change. In order to see changes in health and lifestyle behaviors you must cross the hurdles of cultural, ethic and economic barriers. More and more in today’s news we are hearing about personalized medicine – new and more customized treatment for diseases and disorders that may be triggered by genetic disposition or some disease that has been onset as a result of choices and decisions made. Any health care provider will tell you that the best treatment of any disease is prevention or early detection. We, as a society, must take control of our health and lifestyles to prevent these diseases from consuming our bodies. As the world
