CYP CORE 3.4: SUPPORT CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE’S HEALTH AND SAFETY 1.1. Describe the factors to take into account when planning healthy and safe indoor and outdoor environments and services Environment has a direct effect on the quality of the children’s learning and development. Therefore, the environment should be comfortable, attractive, interesting and appropriate for children who use it. There are a number of important factors to take into account when planning healthy and safe indoor and outdoor environments and services. Indoor Environment The indoor environment should be organised safely and there should be adequate space for the number of people using that room.
Unit CYP3.4 Support children and young people’s health and safety Assessment Criteria 1: Understand how to plan and provide environments and services that support children and young people’s health and safety. A young person’s learning environment is many things: It's a safe place where children are protected from the elements and are easily supervised. It is where the important activities take place, such as education, playing, eating, washing hands, and going to the bathroom. Beyond the basics, however, an environment for young children implements and supports a schools ethos and curriculum. When setting up an effective preschool classroom, a variety of factors must be carefully considered: Light & Noise: Lighting should be designed for the tasks that individuals are carrying out within that environment.
ENVIRONMENT SUMMARY A toddler and infant classroom should be set up in a way that promotes young children’s health, safety, and comfort while they acquired knowledge and reach their educational goals. I also believe that this place needs to be designed taking in considerations all the teachers needs. This place needs to be easy to be rearranged for a specific activity or simple to get cleaned every day at the end of the day. Materials need to be safe for the kids but also need to be easy to get clean. Finding the right balance between safety, fun, development, without compromising the atmosphere and the ambiance of the whole classroom is not an easy task, Many things need to be taken inconsideration like: kids need to be able to move around and really experience the benefits or a ball on a hard surface floor, or the nice cozy feeling of a rug during storytelling time.
CU1521 Support children and young people’s health and safety | | | 1.1 Describe the factors to take into account when planning healthy and safe indoor and outdoor environments and services. At my setting we take into account a variety of factors when we plan the indoor and outdoor environment and services. Before setting up the environment it is important that the following is considered and checked: * Staff – Child Ratio * Age of children * Ability of children * Development stage of children * Individual needs * Outcomes of activity * Potential risks For Example: If i was setting up the outside area for eight 2-3 year olds i would need to ensure that there were 2 members of staff available to go into the garden with them and that the toys/ activities set up would be appropriate for their age. I would check the outside area for any potential risks and minimise these as much as possible. | 1.2 Explain how health and safety is monitored and maintained and how people in the work setting are made aware of risks and hazards and encouraged to work safely.
Understand how to plan and provide environments and services that support children and young peoples health and safety. 1.1 Describe the factors to take into account when planning healthy and safe indoor and outdoor activities. When planning and providing environments we need to be aware of how to take into account the health and safety requirements of pupils when setting up learning activities, before starting any learning activity, myself and other staff always make sure that the environment is free from any hazards and that children will be able to work safely. I work in a setting of 5-6 year old children. Clothing- Weather must be taking in account when our activities are outdoor, children must wear coats, hats etc.
tt K3C154 The Importance of good working relationships in the setting. When having good working relationships in the setting it’s important as it can create a welcoming and secure atmosphere for the children. This in turn helps young children to settle in and feel relaxed in to the setting. When you are working in an early years setting for example, a nursery all the staff are welcoming and help you out with any questions you might have about the nursery or about their job. If you have a task to do and you don’t know where they keep the equipment to do this task then you could ask someone in the room that you are in.
This act helps maintain healthy, safe and secure environments as it safeguards both the children and the adults working with them, this is done as the employers and employees have to ensure the workplace is safe and appropriate information such as training and supervision should be made available. In my setting, to follow this act, we ensure that all children in our building are safe and have a secure environment, to do this we have certain security arrangements in place, we have two mechanical doors which can only be opened from the inside of the building and which has an alarm system which sounds whenever the door opens. We also have a policy about getting information from the parents on who can and will collect the child, this is done before the child officially starts nursery, our nursery staff get pictures and names of people who will collect the child. Recording and reporting accidents and ill health at work is a legal requirement under The Reporting of
”... the role of the environment is to prepare the child physically with maximum safety, the maximum opportunities for movement and exploration, together with maximum encouragement by the adult” (MCI Module 4, undated, p5). Ventilation systems should provide circulation of clear, fresh air and help keep the room a comfortable temperature. Sufficient lighting and child sized furniture is essential. Other facilities, such as clean toilet, a quiet resting area, and space for each child’s belongings, should be provided. Learning materials should be interesting, stimulating and allow for
* Ensuring my manager is aware of any incidents affecting the welfare of children in our care. * To keep the nursery in a safe and clean condition, making sure all faults are reported through the appropriate channels. * Attending staff meetings and training programmes. * Maintaining the records and daily diaries of the children. * To commit to developing and maintaining the following environment; multi cultural, anti racist, non sexist.
We want infants to feel comfortable, secure, relaxed and that they belong in our environment. Special belongings to infants such as security or favourite objects help infants feel safe. Another important factor is keeping their room the same to create feelings of trust, security, attachments and a sense of belonging in our centre. Emotional needs during physical care routines: Carers work closely with parents to get an understanding of each infant in their care. When establishing trusting relationships with infants we need to consider these factors: * Not rushing tasks of physical care.
