Take for example, often times a group or subjects are chosen for a number of characteristics of the subject are measured and recorded to collect data such as weight, blood pressure, diet, and smoking habits. The subjects are then followed up in time to see if there has been an occurrence of a disease. This course did a great job with breaking down the different age group and ethnicities for different diseases and how it affects the body. The course did changes my views on how we act as a community and making sure the people who have been diagnosed with most of these diseases have the resources they need or able to get the what they need. It is up to the state to follow up on their part to get the information out there and letting the people know that it is available.
This type of cancer begins in the lungs and is divided into three main types; non-small cell, small cell and lung carcinoid tumor (American Cancer Society, 2012). Understanding what type of lung cancer a patient has is important as this will have an impact on treatment and prognosis. Proper diagnosis also involves staging; stage is used by the health care team to determine the extent of disease within the patient’s body. Lung cancer treatment will vary based on type and stage. Common treatments include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and targeted therapies (American Cancer Society, 2012).

When we use the term model, what we are referring to is a way of understanding the basic assumptions of people. There are many models used in life for all sorts of reasons including health. When it comes to understanding health doctors and other medical professional’s use what is know as the biomedical model of health.

People with untreated FAP have a greatly increased risk of developing colon cancer before age 40. Hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC). HNPCC, also called Lynch syndrome, increases the risk of colon cancer and other cancers. People with HNPCC tend to develop colon cancer before age 50. Early detection and removal of these polyps can prevent colon cancer.
