I Hate the Jury… Jury, you may complete your decision on the counts of robbery with a deadly weapon,” the Judge announced. I could tell he was fatigued and slightly exasperated by the edge in his voice. I don’t know what got me here or even how I got here all I remember is the officer’s arm that smelled like rotten gym shorts pressed against my neck yelling, “nice try trying to steal that money. Next time, remember that there’s an alarm!” He snickered to his partner. It took me a little while to grasp it, and when I did, I was astonished.
However this was not enough to stop his greed from overwhelming him. In the beginning, he sets the setting of the story through his descriptive diction, he is in a store standing in front of a pie rack deciding on which flavor of pie to steal. He sarcastically states, “I nearly wept trying to decide.” He tries to forget the religious aspect, trying to block out any sense of good or anything that would make him have second thoughts before doing this. Soto tries to “[forget] the shadows of angels”. The pace before he steals the pie is very fast, making the reader wonder if Soto was caught or not.
I just let it go because maybe he was having a bad day but as I started to order it seemed like the cashier was trying to overcharge me. I ordered two of the 5 dollar pizzas but the cashier kept charging me for extra things and when I told him about it he got angry and started yelling at me. I was being as calm as possible to tell him what he did wrong but he just kept yelling. Finally one of his co-workers came to help the cashier but he still had an attitude the whole time. As I was walking out he was talking trash and being very impolite.
False advertising is also another unpleasant practice that fast food companies use to lure in costumers. Some of these practices include no warning labels on advertisements like there are on dangerous things like tobacco and confusing labels on food served that lead customers into eating more calories than intended. David Zinczenko advocates that it is some of the fast food companies fault for the decline in America’s general health. At the end, David chooses not to complain about the legalities, but instead encourages us to let the justice system do its work. In the article David Zinczenko discusses “Shouldn't we know better than to eat two meals a day in fast-food restaurants” we the people of America should know by now that it is
Even when they were on the hunting trip Kenny and Frank brought pizza, a couple candy bars, sandwiches and some more chocolate. While Tub ate a hardboiled egg and some celery. That Tub is cheating on his diet and Kenny is just a reminder of his own wrong doings. Tub shooting Kenny also brought Tub and Frank closer. They confided in one another after the shooting, about the things Kenny was joking about.
The addictive and yet fattening qualities associated with fast food leave people constantly craving one more bite. However, Schlosser makes a decent point in the epilogue section of his book when he states that under no circumstances is anyone actually forced to purchase and consume fast food products and those who desire change should simply "stop buying it" (Pg. 269). No matter how many excuses the fast food industry or average consumer comes up with, consuming fast food is just not worth the endless list of consequences
The author also scavenged pizzas from a dumpster behind a pizza delivery shop. Prepared food was usually not safe, but he retrieved the pizzas immediately after the shop was closed. These extra pizzas were due to prank calls, incorrect orders, or customer rejection, and were perfectly good when discarded. “The pizzas shop made efforts to discourage the author but they were in vain” (358). But
The Human Resources Manager had a lot to think about upon these interviews and the entire hiring process. I was unaware who was the HRM at the first interview I attended. I thought their role would have been move dominant than sitting in the corner. The HRM seemed very impartial at all the interviews I attended which was nice to know that no one had a clear advantage. This must have been nerve racking for HR because it none of these people possessed the qualities desired, then this process would have to be started all over again.
FreeWriting In the article, “FreeWriting”, Mr. Elbow states,” next time you write, notice how often you stop yourself from writing down something you were gonna write down. Or else cross out what’s been written. “Naturally” you say, “it wasn’t any good”. I can definitely relate to the view Peter Elbow takes in his article. Starting an assignment is always the hardest step for me .Like in the very beginning, when you are digging for words to tie your point together; it’s always a struggle building that creative momentum.
Ehrenreich is also a published writer; however her view on poverty is living in a crowded apartment or in car. According to a survey she wrote, most of the employees she worked with were living in these conditions. Eighner is always finding fresh food in dumpsters. He would often scavenge by pulling pizzas out of a dumpster behind a pizza shop. He says, “Such shops often get prank calls, called “bogus.” Where people would call in fake orders and the leftover pizzas would be thrown away.
