WUTHERING HEIGHTS Argumentative essay Wuthering heights written by Emily Bronte is a story about an orphaned boy named Heathcliff brought in by Mr.Earnshaw who suffers at the hands of others, gains the sympathy of the readers. However his thirst for revenge destroys several innocent lives and thus earns him the status of a villain. Heathcliff one of the main characters of “Wuthering Heights” is the protagonist and also the antagonist of the story. To justify this we see that at the beginning of the book he is a protagonist and the readers feel sympathetic towards him. But as we go further we see his character change from a protagonist to an antagonist.
Horace Slughorn was very important to Dumbledore. Harry Potter was the chosen one, he survived the attack because his mother sacrificed for him and Harry was marked as Voldemort equal. Harry Potter was only who could kill Voldemort: The Chosen One. In front of Harry Potter was placed the most difficult task, he heard the prophecy and he could be death because of it. The setting of the novel was Hogwarts the magical school, typically British, a place that everyone wanted to educate.
Malarkey Critical Evaluation Keith Gray’s emotional text ‘Malarkey’ is a text that not only deals with conflict but is also an emotional journey of the characters. The writer conveys the idea to the reader by characterisation and through the plot of the story. John Malarkey is in the wrong time, he has started at a new school, Brook High and the gang situated at Brook High ‘The Tailors’ take an instant disliking to him. They feel like he is a threat to them, they want him out of Brook High so they do there best to have Malarkey excluded from the school. They start off by stealing his bag and planting his maths teacher Mr Macallan’s wallet in it knowing he would get the blame because he couldn’t explain why it was there.
While he is no longer the victim, he finds himself fast being pulled into the dark world of the Guardians, a secret society of older boys who are orchestrating a reign of terror at his new school. When the Guardians summon him, he thinks that his disguise must have failed. The truth, however, is that the Guardians are so impressed by the new persona Elliot has created that they want him to become one of them. The book follows Elliot's struggle to find a way out of his dilemma. Whilst he has escaped his traumatic past, his future seems to be that he will join the Guardians, and become one of the bullies that he once despised.
This was all due to the promises he had made, one of them being to completely eradicate unemployment within Germany. Everyone then feared him and only stood behind him due to all the deaths he caused, which is very similar to Jack and the boys. This is not expected
"And so Okonkwo was ruled by one passion- to hate everything that his father Unoka had loved. "(17) Nwoye is presented as being similar to his grandfather, or at least that is Okonkwo's greatest fear: "Nwoye was then twelve years old but was already causing his father great anxiety for his incipient laziness. At any rate, that was how it looked to his father." (17) Here the narrator interferes in defense of Nwoye; what it looks like to his father may not be the truth about the boy. But who is Nwoye?
Huck is widely influenced by Miss Watson and widow Douglas by acting in a more civilized manner. He is also influenced by his father who has an affect on him to act like a hoodlum once again. Jim, the slave, has the most important effect on Huckleberry Finn by indirectly teaching him about loyalty regardless if its breaking a law. The king and the Duke also have an impact on him by showing him the lack of morals. Towards the end of the story Huckleberry's friend Tom Sawyer begins to have an impact on the way he acts in his society at the time.
This lack of a father figure to influence him positively through his life could also provide reasoning for his ease to be influenced by Lord Henry. As shown by Lady Henry, Dorian begins to quote ‘one of Harry’s views’ showing the thorough control that Henry has over Dorian’s life in the same way a child would copy his father. This moment in his life also meant that Dorian was brought up by his cruel grandfather, Kelso, (instigator of his mother’s and father’s death) and from the nature of ‘the old schoolroom’ we can see that Kelso despised Dorian as he was a reminder of his daughter and her substandard marriage. This isolation can explain his naivety and provide some excuse for his ignorance leading to debauchery. In the beginning of the novel Dorian’s character comes across as childish and displays innocence and inexperience towards the world.
This essay will be about the movie Dead Poets Society and the rules which are imposed by the teacher Mr. Keating and also how the teachers deal with students who break the rules. In the movie we can see that the teacher is a hero to his students, the teacher uses different types of methods and applies different rules to which the school applies, this in a sense is very important as one must be aware of the context in which they are teaching. The rules applied in this movie may seem to show that Mr. Keating is a very good teacher, but as the context is not appropriate for his teaching methods it portrays him as being a bad teacher. Firstly, I will be talking about the teacher’s style of teaching, Mr. Keating is a teacher who wants his students to think for themselves, and encourages them to do what they think its right even if they are told the opposite. He also mentions that words and ideas can change the world, assuring the students that they can do whatever they please because their thoughts matter.
