The novel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, written by J.K. Rowling, is about a boy named Harry Potter who has turned seventeen and has been left an important mission by Dumbledore which he needs to accomplish. Along the way, he thinks about all the hatred he has for characters in the story, including Severus Snape. At the end of the novel, he changes his stance on the type of man Snape is which changes the reader’s perception of Snape based on everything that was seen from Harry’s point of view. Snape’s morals and values have changed dramatically in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Snape’s evolution is evident in the events of his appointment as Headmaster of Hogwarts, his deed of giving Harry his personal memories, and his betrayal of the powerful Voldemort. First of all, Snape’s values and morals have changed dramatically with his appointment as Headmaster of Hogwarts because he used this position to protect the students of Hogwarts which was peculiar of him considering Snape was known to be a man that hated and despised children. This was only done under Dumbledore’s orders. Also, he took advantage of the privileges of being Headmaster by communicating with his predecessor, Dumbledore which helped out Harry greatly. An example of this is the conversation between Snape, Dumbledore, and Phineas Nigellus went like this: “They are camping in the Forest of Dean,” said Phineas Nigellus. (pg. 553, line. 12) “Now, Severus, the sword! He must not know that you gave it,” said Dumbledore. (pg. 553, line 18-20) This helped Harry greatly because it helped him destroy the horcrux they had and destroy others as they were found. Not only has Snape changed through the position of headmaster of Hogwarts but he has also opened up his personal life as well.
