In both stories the people of the towns are alright with sacrificing one so that everyone else can be happy. We as moral human beings know that this is wrong, but that is exactly a Utilitarian, whatever brings the most overall happiness even if that means sacrificing an innocent. Both stories represent the Utilitarian theme in their own way and are very powerful moral stories. Giving staff better training in any business will improve the service, less mistakes will occur and staff will feel worthwhile. There seems to be no respect for the night managers. This is a big weakness as managers would need respect by other staff to make it work. As there is a lot of food wastage in the business, it is down to all the managers to control. A Change in the staffing and a rota in place would ensure managers have a full overview of what is happening and when.
“The Pursuit of Happiness” suggests what we imagine occurrences and possessions that we believe would make us happy or unhappy. Then we even take that a step further by actually believing we fully realize what effect it would have on us and how we would react. The reality with this is, most of the time our beliefs are not even remotely close to what truly brings us genuine joy or despair. The same remains true in what feelings or reactions one would have with each situation. The article “Positive Psychology: The Science of Happiness”, on the other hand, states that
Relocation for hiring two cooks will become costly for the restaurant so not good strategy. So it is better to attract talented candidate through advertisement and some benefit like health insurance, some facility for cook’s family and some other rewards. Overstaff or Understaff: Buffalo Wild Wings must seek to be fully staffed. Overstaff will cause employees of the restaurant to remain idle and the restaurant needs to take steps to reduce head count such as layoff or early retirement plan. Keeping idle employee in employment will be expensive for the restaurant as the restaurant needs to pay salary to those employees even if it does not gain anything from them.
There is no training program for them that state any reasons why the culture of the company relies on customer satisfaction. So in this case some employees may feel resentment for having to put so much effort into making their customer happy. For instance, some Nordstrom employees may feel that it is too difficult to meet the needs of some of their customers. Employees are expected to go out of their way, even to work long hours or beyond their hours to meet their customers’ needs, but they do not get compensated for any overtime. The environment for this employee could be very stressful and cause them to not want to put much effort into sales.
(Library of Congress) The common impression that the Amish never change is false. They have stubbornly resisted some aspects of modernization, but in many ways they are quite up-to-date. Squeezed by the pressures of progress, they have been forced to strike some deals in order to survive. Although their cultural compromises may appear odd, they are often ingenious arrangements that enable the Amish to retain their distinctive identity and also thrive economically. These negotiated cultural compromises allow them to have their cake and eat it too, so to speak— to protect their traditions while using the benefits of modern technology.
I disagree completely that we as Americans suffer from lack of information about nutrition in fast food. Every capable adult knows that eating anything in a fast food restaurant is bad for you. They need to stop being lazy and letting their kids eat fast food frequently, especially if their kids are not very active. It is the responsibility of the parents to feed their kids three healthy meals a day and to make sure that they are maintaining a healthy diet. I do not believe that if fast food industries started putting nutrition labels on their food that it would have a significant difference on the amount of food that people eat.
Pleasure is the feeling of well-being during eating, resting and procreating. Enjoyment is defined as not always being pleasant at the moment, but it involves triumph in the end, which builds memories and enriches life. Csiksenthihayi states, “There is nothing wrong with seeking pleasure in material goods, but individuals for whom it becomes the main reason for living are not going to grow beyond what the genes have programed them to desire.” Pleasures are easier to obtain by just purchasing new goods rather than doing something constructive. The thesis in Csikenthihayi’s argument differs from the message in Brooks essay. Buying the new grill will essentially enrich Patio Man’s weekend experience with his family and friends.
MISUNDERSTOOD JUSTIN DABNEY JOURNAL ENTRY I strive for excellence wanting to achieve goals that were not exhibited to me by peer and or parents. How can I be label as the working classes but still live in poverty? The government enables me to put food on my table through food stamp and keeps my house warm by the usage of public service (HEAP). I work, but why do I not feel that I am head of my household. Chapter 12 of American Society it states “Some people may be inclined to dismiss these observations because they are based on the relative poverty measure rather than some absolute poverty line” Why should I consider levels of poverty as if one is greater than the other.
Their job is to protect and provide in our best interests to be a great country, we need to be filled with great people. Regulating the amount of fast food you consume would not stop you from having choices, nor will it keep you from getting fat, but it would provide the country the fighting chance to live a long and healthy life with minimal chances for disease and suffering. A child doesn't know how to feed themselves beyond shoving food in their mouths. Parents are supposed to teach them what food is good for you and what is not. Our parents are supposed to teach us to be better...teach us.
