Being a hairstylist, it is all about the skills: The artistic skills, the communication skills, also, the skill to be patient and respectful. Some people have a difficult time trying to obtain all of these skills. Hairstylists have a tough job., no one really understands what the stylist goes through. The pressure to get things right and to make the client happy is a complicated situation. “Talking to your hair dresser is like talking to your therapist”, good communication skills are one of the main qualities people look for when choosing a hairdresser. While I need to improve on my communication skills, this class has provided me with a better knowledge and understanding to help me communicate more effectively so that I can become that hairdresser everyone wants. Before I can effectively communicate with others, I first have to communicate with myself, both self and perception are foundations for effective communication. The job of a hairstylist is to create, develop, and enhance client’s personal appearance, however, it is not all about beauty, you have to be able to interact good with the costumers. Being a hairdresser, your job is to shampoo, cut, colour, and style a client’s hair, while you do all this, it is your duty to advertise some products and recommend what the client shall do with his/her hair. Recommending products to customers will make them appreciate you, than they will come back to you. So being a responsible and respectful hairdresser will help you with your clientele. The responsibilities that a hairstylist has are unbelievable. They have to make sure that they know what the client is looking for and the actual style they should have. Being able to explain to the client what kind of style they should have is difficult, but it’s part of the job. You have to be responsible for so much that you do in a salon.
