CATRINA SHARK SOCIOLOGY 200 02/7/2011 Page 1 I volunteer at The Leland Habitat for Humanity in Leland, Mississippi in December 4, 2010. I serve lunches and drinks to 65 crew workers who are building homes for needy families. I did my volunteer work on the weekends Saturdays and Sundays. Leland Habitat for Humanity organization was first created June 14, 1995. Over the years they have built over 30 homes for needy families in Leland.

Romero House helps successful refugee’s to apply for permanent residence and they pay for half of the associated fees ($550 per adult and $150 per child) from donated funds. Interns help refugees look for apartments and find furniture and household items. Romero House also provides transportation for the move.
Recognition to all those that made the changes possible or who participated in the short-term wins will act as a positive message. Employees want to be recognized therefore, they will be looking forward to becoming the next person on that list. BNCCORP stated that their employees are involved in providing volunteer service, as well as contributing volunteer activities and charitable works but no specific example was given. In contrast, one of the team members of Wells Fargo offered 20 family members, friends, and storm refugees to stay at her home when they were struck by Superstorm Sandy. Besides that, Wells Fargo kindly contributed $1 million to help victims of Superstorm Sandy. Another similar action taken by both banks is to support small business. In addition to commercial and industrial lending in North Dakota, BNCCORP emphasized on Small Business Administration loans in Arizona to help grow local employees.
In 2011 the company had a total of 1,884 volunteer hours. St. John Shelter * established in 1985 by St. John’s Lutheran Church to provide emergency shelter for homeless women with children * In 1988, St. John’s Shelter became a public charity, and incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization * The Shelter moved out of the church fellowship hall and joined the Loaves and Fishes complex. At Loaves and Fishes, the Shelter was able to provide space for 40 women and children for up to 30 days, with the clients having to leave the shelter during day time hours * In 2004, St. John’s moved to a larger facility and is now able to provide daily 24-hour comprehensive services to homeless women and children for up to 90 days. * St. John’s has implemented a Children’s Program to specifically
Operation shoestring was created based on the work of Russell Gilbert. Centered in the area around Baily Avenue, and the headquarters in the basement of Wells Memorial United Methodist church, Shoestring very quickly began to fill critical needs in the community. In the first year of opening, Shoestring offered such services as a medical clinic for children and adults, tutorial services, food stamp assistance, and emergency loan fund, a thrift shop, a school lunch program and more. Operation shoestring has support from a variety of individual and corporate funder, local congregations and public entities. Their mission: investing in the hearts and minds of our children and their families to promote health and self-sufficiency, and faithfully extending the hand of hope and opportunity to empower the needy, uplift our target neighborhoods and the larger community, and brighten the future for us all.
