Flappers represented a freedom of choice and equality to men. The flapper appearance tended to be more masculine than what had been popular in the past. Women would bind their chests with tight cloth in order to give a flat appearance. Flappers would not wear corsets to define curves, overall the body frame appeared more boyish. Flappers cut their hair in short styles, such as bobs and shingles which was opposite of the long hair known in the past.

This film, I also found to be very interesting for being a silent film. The African Americans in this film, I feel, were depicted appropriately to the times and area in which the film was based. This film was mainly based in the north were their treatment was often much more fair and equal to their rights. Men in this film were often shown in well groomed suites, well-fitting shoes and a top hat of some sort to “finish or polish” the look. The general style of the “abaya” is somewhat of graduation robe – lengthy, wide and flowing. Both men and women wear abayas. The women’s abayas are generally balck with some kind of colourful pattern or design. The men’s abayas are simple and plain but, they vary in color: brown, grey, beige or khaki. It is common to see the Iraqi people in abayas; although, the younger generation does not seem to like them much.
If the painting were to be cut in half we would be able to see approximately the same amount of lilies on one side as well as the other. This would also be true for the young native girl, the way her feet are positioned and the extension of her arms allows to see how symmetrical the painting is. The painting also has many organic lines and shapes; the massive flowers have curved lines and are two-dimensional. On the other hand the stems of the lilies have vertical lines, the vertical lines make our eyes look up at the large lilies. On the other hand the scale and proportion of the lilies are not accurate to reality.
