Film Review of the GuaSha Treatment GuaSha is an ancient Chinese treatment to cure cold. It need one catch a coin to scrape the patient’s back, to make the channels and collaterals comfortable, then the cold will buffered the patient’s pain. In the movie the GuaSha treatment, this action becomes one of principal contradictions of Xu Datong’s life. The movie GuaSha vividly depicts the culture conflicts between the Eastern and Western worlds, but from it we can also find that loving all uniformly, even during the progress of cultural exchange there would be several obstacles among people in different countries, the final outcome of these exchanges is the realization of love. Tow important details in the movie Datong is a successful Chinese immigrant who has a cult son Dennis in America. Once in a party of his company, Dennis fought with the boss’s son. Xu Datong fought Dennis out of Chinese culture that be kind to others is a crucial character in daily life. But his boss and colleagues seem his behavior as child abuse. This is the first culture collide in the movie. Datong’s father, a plain traditional old Chinese, loves his son and grandson very much. When five years old Dennis had a cold and got fever, the grandfather comes to U.S.A to visit his relatives. He doesn’t know the English explanation on the medicines, so he chooses the traditional and popular treatment to cure Dennis’ disease. Just for these reasons, the family is suddenly thrown into turmoil when a cultural misunderstanding with the Child Welfare Agency threatens to take their young son from them. Cultural conflict of “the Guasha Treatment” Let to slap one's own son in the face in front of boss in Datong, have fought because his son and the boss' son play the electricity and play games, that boss is Datong's good friend .
