Dear: National Junior Honor Society Committee I currently represent the “Character” Trait of NJHS by being honest to others and very workable with my fellow peers. Many people rely on me as a very good person to come to in a great time of need. I deeply care for my family and other people. I also listen to others ideas to help improve their idea or to help make it a reality. I will use all of these characteristics to help this organization reach out to people in need.

It takes but a few seconds to say, "Nice job," "Well done," "Marked improvement," "You're on the right road," or any number of other phrases that communicate to the employee that you care about the job and about them, and that you recognize an improvement in productivity. Also, employees can be given performance awards or have their name mentioned at staff meetings, posted on a bulletin boards or in employee interoffice e-mail to say that someone did a noteworthy job. All of these simple modes of pointing out individual, team or group behavior serve as very strong methods of improving productivity, self-worth and morale. Another strategy for identifying the cause of poor morale and turning it around is to determine if the work load is sufficient or too pressured, challenging or boring, professionally satisfying or not. As long as the current job isn't overly taxing, provide more challenging tasks--either in breadth or depth to spark an interest in employees.
Using the Characteristics of Successful Leaders list I can see how I have used a lot of these skills such as; supporting the development and participation of others, celebrating the achievements of others, respecting colleagues for their knowledge and welcoming constructive criticism, when working alongside staff to aid them to deliver the anger management programme within their own schools. To keep clients active and reduce the chance of them becoming withdrawn from society I have thought about services such as befriending, shopping trips, luncheon clubs and many others which will help an individual enhance their daily living. These services would increase the individual’s confidence and self-esteem because they understand that the professionals who will be providing these services are here to help and encourage them to keep active in a positive way. Luncheon clubs/coffee mornings will allow others from the area such as friends and families of the clients within the care home who feel lonely or cut off to interact and keep their social interaction active as they grow older. Also, when people get older they like to have a group of friends normally about 4-5 who will go places together this is a social circle and when clients move to residential care they can’t do this no more which means that they lose contact with them certain indivudals. However, having luncheon clubs and coffee mornings allow their friends to visit, which means people won’t lose their social circle because they will have the chance to still engage with that group. However, sometimes there can be barriers which are causing people to withdraw from socialising

The first time I did an activity I was observed and given tips on how to effectively communicate with residents, which made activities run a lot smoother. I was shown how to explain rules to individuals and how to check that they understood what I was telling them, e.g. ask for a synopsis of what I had told them or ask them to demonstrate. This made things a lot easier, as it can sometimes be difficult to successfully instruct an individual with dementia or confusion.
