Wright was a wonderful woman who got along with anyone and was very caring. She was manipulated by her husband he dominated her, keeping her from the rest of the community. Mrs. Wright could only hide her emotions deep inside her and only worsening that torture day by day as he abused her. She had no one to turn to because they had lived so far away. Mr. Wright was killing her slowly but surely and she had no choice but to deal with the agony he put her through.
During the interview Brittany Maynard’s demeanor is very humbleness. Watching the video, Brittany does a good explanation of her life behind the scenes. When people criticize her for taking her own life because she doesn’t look terminal ill. She stated “people say you don’t look as sick as you are.” People underestimate how detrimental cancer can be, how hard seizures can be to handle, and how it can affect your friends and family. In the story The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins, the main character portrays a “true woman” who submissive, loyal, and faithful. She would be considered part of the cult of true womanhood. Though did all these things for her husband, John, he treated her as if she did not have any say or opinion at all, not even on her own health. John was certainly convinced that she was sick and had a nervous condition. It can be inferred that John made her obtain this nervous condition because being part of the cult of true womanhood could take a strain on one.
Most women wouldn’t speak up against their man because then society would see them as rude, unrespectful and uncompassionate women, which then would ruin their reputation. However, Janie did not let her gender interfere with achieving her goal and after taking a prodigious amount of abuse, she finally spoke out against Jody, eventually leaving him. Her third husband, Tea Cake was a caring and loving man, who really admired Janie for who she is. He gave her many privileges that were once forcibly snatched from her. They talked a lot and were very compassionate and romantic with each other, but one day Tea Cake hit Janie to show her and everyone that he is in control and the dominant one.
They are completely separated from other people even with their parents, with the exception that both characters have a major female role in their lives, Donnie’s being Gretchen and Holden’s being his little sister, Phoebe. Holden likes Phoebe a lot, even though phoebe does things that usually gets on Holden’s nerve, he doesn’t hate or mind it, like when phoebe repeats “daddy’ll kill you” (167) 4 or 5 times, Holden never once got angry and reply the same answer over and over even though he said he hated people repeating themselves “that’s something that drives me crazy, when someone says something twice that way, after you admit it the first time. Violence, alcoholics, theft, and threatening people also surround her. Carolina is a strong woman and she knows how to distance herself from all of the bad things in life and to keep her children away from it also. “She hates me. She says that the handsome men and distinguished men prefer me and that I make more money than she does.” (De Jesus, p. 7) Carolina is talking about the jealousy and the hatred coming from the favela women. She puts up with this day-to-day and seems not to get mad that often.
Most people that appear to be loyal really betray you in the end. Gatsby’s personal characteristic of being a loyal person contributes to his greatness as an individual and character in Fitzgerald’s novel. When Daisy in a confused and frantic state does not realize that she is going too fast and accidentally kills a woman, Gatsby takes the blame for her mistake. He is completely loyal to him even though she at the end lets Gatsby take fall for her and chooses her husband’s love over Gatsby’s love. The car she was driving was called a “death car as the newspapers described it and didn’t stop; it came out for the gathering darkness, wavered tragically for a moment and then disappeared around the next bend (Fitzgerald 100).” When Nick Caraway confronts Gatsby about the accident and asks Gatsby “was Daisy driving?” and Gatsby confesses that “Yes, but of course I’ll say that I was.
Although she know it’s true she does it, because Bethan her popular but bad mannered best friend does it, and had told her that it keeps you skinny. Bethan isn’t only just bad mannered, she also hangs with older boys who has been in prison, and got her sister pregnant. We get the impression that Bethan doesn’t come from a loving and worried family like Lucy’s. Lucy’s mother doesn’t want her to wear make-up, but what will Bethan think if she didn’t? Lucy even hits her old best friend Penny, to show Bethan that they are the new and popular best friend couple.
