Unlike ‘Still Angela’s’ jolted time frame, ‘Ruby Moon’ has a very distinct progression, as it is highly episodic. The play making references to children’s books throughout emphasizes time in passages; skipping from character to character. Sylvie and Rays life consists like Angela of a routine, one day after the other rolling into one long fairytale, and within it a distinct beginning and end, as they endeavor to uncover the truth of ruby moon. In contrast both time and Angela has been jumbled up, as the audience closely takes part in her journey. It is does not use the same narrative style as Cameron; instead time in non-linear and the different stages of Angela’s life can coexist together.
The Yellow Wallpaper By the end of the “The Yellow Wallpaper,” the narrator lets her surroundings, the wallpaper, and her husband John, get the best of her. John treats the narrator as if she were a child and takes away her right to choose and decide how she feels; this eventually leads to her defeat. After being treated like a child and put in a room that is barred up, she develops problems which eventually lead to paranoia and insanity. Both paranoia and insanity eventually lead her to believe that she is the woman who has escaped from the yellow wallpaper. From the very beginning of the story, problems are brought up that hint toward the defeat of Jane.
Since they let their responsibility go, the house replaced the parents which made the children feel that the house is their parents. Also, with the amount of technology they have, they rely on technology too much which became other human contact. With that being said, technology doing everything for you is not great but to an extent it is fine. In the short story, “The Veldt”, the house takes responsibility for the family and the children feel that the house is their parents. The children rely on their technology that is available for them instead of their parents.
Creche Crèches are short sessional care or temporary childcare arrangements to cover things such as shopping trips, conferences, or training events. They provide a play area for a small group of children whose parents are busy doing other things, but are still on the same premises. Many crèches are sited in shopping and leisure centres, with some attached to Adult Education Centres. Full-time work place nurseries are sometimes called crèches, in which case day nursery rules and standards apply. Crèches must have insurance and are inspected by Ofsted.
In order to emphasise Larkin’s outlooks onto time and it’s passing, one can highlight the similarities and differences between Larkin and Abse’s poetry. In ‘Love Songs In Age’, Larkin illustrates the view that time and it’s passing merely leads to many disappointments. The enjambment he uses amongst all three stanzas, “and stood/relearning” in the first and second and “more/the glare” between the second and third; this implies the suggestion that love cannot stop the passing of time and the instances that happen within it, for example the death of the woman’s husband. During the first stanza, Larkin uses imagery to create a memoir of the music sheets that the woman has found, “one marked in circles”, “and coloured”, suggesting that the joy of life, love and happiness isn’t appreciated until age shows what one has missed during their youth. We can then imply from this suggestion that Larkin feels time is only appreciated during the older years of one’s life.
“Mrs Tilscher’s Class will be the secondary salient poem explored for transformation themes, within; Mrs Tilscher’s class, the transformation of right of passage for the ‘big bad world’ – loosing simplicity and innocence of a naive child. Along with Duffy’s poems Pugh’s poems will be looked at and introduced to compare similarities and differences between the writers and how thy express transformation, thus increasing our understanding of these aspects. Pugh’s ‘sweet 18’ will be analysed and interpreted along with ‘Black Ram’ Sweet 18 being similar to ‘Mrs Tilscher’s class; holding onto youth and growing up “unknowing ease of growing up” this is linked to the idea of naivety like so in; Mrs Tilscher’s class. Mrs. Midas shows transformation in mood, it changes as the poem proceeds, reaching its peak of fear in the fifth to eleventh stanza then calmly comes down as Midas draws close to death. The language the character uses informs the reader about the mood of the poem.
Both poems are rich in material, just waiting to be dug up, interpreted, and reinterpreted again. The poet`s different strategies on the usage of images and emotion, and other poetic devices really project an experience to the reader. My purpose is to, step by step, go through various poetic device, present the similarities and differences, convince you that both have similar roots, but also locate where poetic devices of the poems stem apart – particularly highlighting the effect on the child. Both poem`s overarching themes are of paternal, or family, dysfunction. Interestingly in “American Primitive”, the speaker initially purveys a sense of wonderment and admiration towards the father.
What is the central theme of the work? Answer: Instead of describing how perfect his love is or comparing her to other beautiful things, he says she is average and there is nothing special about her. At the last 2 lines of the poem, the volta changes the poem by saying that even though his love is average in beauty, his love for her is special and unique. So instead of praising her throughout the whole poem, he contrasts her average characteristics with his special love for her. 3.
‘Little – less – nothing! – and that ended it’ everything has changed in just a moment. We are presented with multiple ideas of change, its suddenness, unexpectedness and importance, all of which are clearly depicted and conveyed throughout this text. These important ideas of change are demonstrated through the use of various techniques consisting of short sentences, repetition, direct speech and narrative, which all contribute in grasping the reader’s attention and challenging both their perspective and opinion. ‘Leap of Faith’, Baynton’s poem, is a short story which revolves around a young girl, by the name of Faith and her father who experience various stages of abrupt yet unconscious changes which dramatically affect the way in which they view and cherish the most important things in life.
