Meditation has been shown to improve concentration and also results in positive changes to the brain structure. (Mental Health foundation, 2011) b. Meditation decreases stress and increases attention skills, which in turn increases academic functioning. (Schonert-Reichl and Lawlor, 2010) i. In Arizona, a study with first, second and third graders showed that meditation improved attention skills and decreased stress.
Positive feedback provides this information. For example, ‘The last report to the client on their advertising yield was excellent, you presented the data well and they’ve told us that it was easy to read and very thorough! Well done.’ Constructive feedback This type of feedback methodically builds on experience that the employee has obtained through their work practices. This is done by providing concrete steps for future improvement that relate to behaviours or skills they have demonstrated up to that point. It is not always positive, but positive feedback may
When we practice giving thanks for all we have, instead of complaining about what we lack, we give ourselves the chance to see all of life as an opportunity and a blessing. Gratitude can change our story from one of being a victim of our circumstances, to one of victory over our circumstances. Remember that gratitude isn’t a blindly optimistic approach in which the bad things in life are whitewashed or ignored. It’s more a matter of where we put our focus and attention. Pain and injustice exist in this world, but when we focus on the gifts of life, we gain a feeling of well-being.
Is there really solid evidence to show that moving from a traditional calendar to a year-round calendar increases student achievement? Vanessa St. Gerard writes about the many benefits year-round schools purportedly have to offer in her article, Year-Round Schools Look Better All the Time.” St. Gerard references increased efficiency in year-round schools: “the end result which is achieved by making this change is usually a better use of time and resources for all of the stakeholders who are involved here” (St. Gerard, 2007, p. 56). Teachers and students are able to make better use of their time and resources in year-round schools because they don’t have to fight “summer learning loss” (St. Gerard, 2007, p. 57). St. Gerard notes a 1996 study by Harris M. Cooper in which all of the observed students lost skills in math and spelling and many also lost reading skills during their traditional summer vacations. The alternative, year-round schedule promoted by supporters such as the National

In the documentary Generation Boomerang, social scientists say the global phenomenon of young adults between the ages of 20 to 29 still living at home with their parents is the “new normal”. According to Jeffrey Arnett, a social psychologist in the documentary, society should embrace this longer road to adulthood as healthy and positive. He has coined the term “emerging adulthood”, which is an actual life stage between college and adulthood where they have the freedom to focus on their own development. He claims that they will have a better chance to happiness because their judgement is going to be better and they will have more life experiences in comparison to when they were 18-20 years old. I agree with Arnett that young adults’ long road to adulthood is healthy and positive because it provides them the opportunity to pursue their career, provides them the opportunity to take control of their finances, and it strengthens the family bond.

A Global Perspective Employee satisfaction affects various aspects in the marketplace including turnover, absenteeism, and performance (Bockerman & Ilmakunnas, 2012). The European Union argues that it can have a positive impact on a company’s overall performance. The implication is that improving employee satisfaction will be beneficial for both the employee and the employer (Bockerman & Ilmakunnas, 2012). Bockerman & Ilmakunnas (2012) studied Finnish manufacturing plants over a five year period and found that, depending on the method used, a one point increase in satisfaction can increase productivity by 3.9% to as much as 20%. These findings are consistent with the ideas that job satisfaction affects productivity.
Wardrobe Essentials When Dating Warning: You are about to read a sentimental reflection on the journey from a college freshman’s wardrobe to a graduating senior’s aspiring “grownup” wardrobe. I remember freshman year like it was yesterday. A couple of goals for my first year of college were to have fun, make new friends, attend classes, ace all of my courses, and manage to look cute while balancing it all. The truth is that I might have accomplished only a few of those goals. I’ll leave it up to the imagination on which ones I did not succeed in.
Positive self –concept arises from positive self-esteem, positive self-evaluation, self-respect and self-acceptance. According to De Janasz (2069), people with high level of self-awareness tend to be superior managers. Given their high level of self-esteem, they are able to “place themselves in the shoes of others” when attempting to understand a problem or issue. They are usually receptive of feedback and are willing to share ideas, thereby leading to improved communications. This ability to relate enables them to win the trust of their peers/subordinates.
