GPS Technology: Advantages The speed of development of location aware systems and applications has been fueled by the demand for more accurate location technology. Theses technologies can have important applications in the mobile, social and healthcare as it has become an essential requirement for these. In absence of these technologies, some healthcare and social networks could face problems in their functioning. Among the latest developments is the establishment of a base of localizations but most of these techniques have been developed keeping in mind the particular requirements of the application. These applications which are location aware can be divided into categories like Outdoor localization, indoor localization and place detection. Some examples of the technologies falling in these categories are Building Navigation, Precise soil sampling, Digital Home, Citywide Tourist Guidance, better safety of trains etc. Among the primarily developed positioning techniques comes Active Badge which was developed for locating simple and portable devices or badges inside a building. The technology uses diffused infrared as a transmission medium and also utilizes the natural limitations of the infrared waves by the walls of a building as a delimiter for location granularity but it also suffers from all the disadvantages associated with the use of infrared as a medium for location identification. RADAR is another technology for location system that uses RF for computation of position estimates. The technique used in scene analysis that compares the characteristics of the signal received with the characteristics from several anchors that have stored and pre measured characteristics value. CRICKET is one more technology that is some what similar to RADAR but it can support indoor localization also. Due to its stickiness towards an indoor specific nature, this
