The shutdown of the government has affected the country in many different ways. Most of them being negative. It has caused emotional stresses on some states more than other. In Washington, the trash removal has been taken out of place because, “Washington’s budget has to be approved by Congress. No budget for the city = no trash collection.” (Simpson). This may not seem like a big deal in some smaller cities but the city of Washington produces almost 500 tons of garbage per week. The government shutting down is not only causing economic issues, but soon will be causing environmental issues if the trash is to collect in great volume. In Illinois, a marathon organizer had to change the course that the runners would take only a few days before the race itself. The changes had to be made because “a federally operated trail had been barricaded.” (Manchir). The shutdown of the government not only is affecting the country as a whole, but has affected people individually in many different ways. There are people who have gotten new jobs, but cannot start them because the social security offices are close so they have no proof of citizenship. Keeping the government shut down is only going to lead to more downfalls than anything. The businesses that have been shut down along with the government are not necessarily ones that people cannot live without but, they are important in the lives of all Americans. Who knows what could happen next? The government has done a really good job in keeping quiet on what is going on behind the closed doors of all of the meetings that have been held regarding the issue at hand. America is the largest economy in the world and with it being slowly shutdown, what is going to happen to the country as a whole?
