Good Manners. A World Guide to Good Manners Good manners can help people to cope (susidoroti) in the toughest (sunkiausiose) situations. The majority of a person’s basic manners come from the home. Children also tend to pick up on good and bad manners when they observe the behavior of their parents. We must learn what to do in each situation. For instance, it is polite to take or make a phone call when spending time with family, friends, or co-workers. But it is impolite if we have phone conversations while partaking in other activities, such like meeting or in the theater. Showing up late for work or important meeting is typically not included under the "good manners" category, too. For ex.In America, time is money. We have to be punctual. Etiquette is a touchy (keblus, painus) subject. Parrents teach the children not to point their finger at people, to say greeting or thanking, and chew with their mouth closed. And they give a lot of other advices. But cultures have different sets of etiquette and we must to know how to behave in other country. What may be considered good manners in one country might be considered bad manners in another. So, we can get into difficulty, if we won‘t know the meaning of particular gesture or conventions (papročiai). For instance, to show thumb up means all fine, very good, but in some Asia countries this sign can be understood as very bad and derogatory. Or nodding a head can mean „Yes“ in one place of the world, but also „No“ in another. So, we need to find out specific customs of that country what we are planing to visit. I would like to give some examples how not to behave badly abroads. | Shaking of hand is one of the most popular way of greeting. But in many Asian countries, there is no physical contact at all.
