This is a very good question, one I had to think on for a while. Personally, I think the core of nursing should be as a nurse, your genuine compassion for that patients overall safety and health. I have had nurses tell me “oh, that patient in room 310 is really grumpy and won’t do anything you ask them to do.” But I go in to do my assessment, greet the patient and introduce myself with a huge smile on my face, and will have no problems with the patient. I feel you should not be judge mental towards the patient; you should set your own relationship with them and build your care/goals from
Many of these patients have complex conditions and the more education a nurse has in preparation and critical thinking will be better prepared to manage the care of the patients under their care. I was working in a Rehabilitation hospital and during my shift, I had a patient who was doing well. The assessment was completed with nothing exceptional noted. During my charting I also make a habit to read the history report for all my patients as well as labs and other tests that have been done. I read the patient had history of hypertension and diabetes.
This essay will discuss one of the main and very important principles in midwifery practice, accountability. It will also explore, with the use of relevant literature, how and why midwives became accountable, who midwives are accountable to and the importance of midwives being accountable autonomous health professionals. Also how the midwife incorporates this on a daily basis within her practice. The legal recognition and regulation of midwifery started in 1902. This was when parliament approved the Midwives Act on the 31 July 1902, which then became fully effective on the 1st April 1905.

I was over the moon when my mentor commended my actions and reaction during and after Mr Brooks aggression and verbal abuse towards me. He said I did the right thing to seek assistance and also communication with Mr Brooks was very therapeutic and it goes a long way and helps particularly with patient with dementia and in mental health nursing as a whole. He said communication enable you to gain patient trust and respect. According to Nursing and Midwifery professional code of conduct, the people in your care must be able to trust you with their health and wellbeing (NMC 2008). Eventually, I was able to assist Mr Brooks with his personal hygiene needs and was also able to follow the standard procedure.
I listened in on what one of the rooms as she was rounding. She did a great job of asking all the questions correctly, but I told her she can always stay a little longer and converse with patient so it does not seem like she is coming in just to check in. I then asked her multiple questions about being a and how we can improve anything. She mentioned that making at least two rounds was not a difficult task and that she has always gotten in both rounds. Everything else she mentioned was positive and she appreciated the friendly staff.
Although, I may treat all these situations differently they all require compassion and respect. In addition, the Code of Ethics states, “The nurse has authority, accountability, and responsibility for nursing practice, makes decisions and takes action consistent with the obligation to promote health and to provide optimal care.” (Association, 2001) As a nurse, I am accountable for my actions in patient care, patient safety, and maintaining patient confidentiality. It is important to provide the best care I can for all of my patients. While doing so I need to adhere to the NPA of my
The Effects of “To Err is Human” in Nursing Practice As we all know as nurses we are the glue in the area of patient safety, care and delivery in any healthcare setting. As nurses we are there from moment-to-moment at the patients bedside, we support the physicians’ diagnosis and we carry out the numerous orders set before us. Indeed, on a moment-to-moment basis, we are usually more aware of the patient safety issues in our hospital and other healthcare settings than the doctors are. In 1999 the Institute of Medicine (IOM) released a report entitled To Err Is Human: Building a Safer Health System that exposed the number of errors that are made on a daily basis within a health care organization that are both reported and unreported (Wakefield, 2008). This report stated (Wakefield, 2008)” that 44,000 to 98,000 people die in U.S. hospitals each year as a result of medical errors, making them the 5th to 8th leading cause of death in the United States.
This shows his compassion and feelings to everybody that no matter their skin color or social status, he loves them the same way. This same axiom concerns Calpurnia, as she is loved like a family member by the Finch family. Calpurnia is like a mother to the kids as their mother passed when they were very young, and Atticus cares for her and treats like her like any other woman, with respect. Mrs. Dubose is another great example of Atticus’s devotion toward everyone. He admires her for her continuing effort fighting her morphine addiction every single day.
They monitored the patient very closely. I called my charge nurse who has a degree of BSN. My charge nurse decided to have the patient transferred to ICU where they monitored patient very closely. This situation really contributed critical thinking of BSN nurses
