Every nurse and midwife working in United Kingdom is bound to follow the code of nursing midwifery council with a forethought that it is helping to ensure the nurses and midwifes are effectively providing the upmost care to every individual in society under their care (NMC, 2010 a.). Having gained the consent of Mr. X (Names has been changed due to confidentiality reasons. (NMC, 2008 a.)), his experiences at the stay in acute primary care under the nurses may help enlighten us to understand more about how the NMC (Nursing Midwifery Council) code is effectively used by nurses, supporting both the professionals using it and the individuals in their care. (NMC, 2010 b)
Being admitted in a ward in a hospital for the very first time was scary and confusing for Mr. X. But the nurses and the health care professionals working in the ward was very polite, cheerful, welcoming and showed him around the ward on his arrival to the ward. Fathers & Stevens (2008) suggests that the attitude of the first person (potentially the nurses) the client meets in the hospital directly affects the client’s feeling of self-worth, well being and the anxiety levels. During Mr. X’s stay in the hospital he spoke of the night when he had a very high temperature and wasn’t feeling well at all. The nurse looking after him on the shift tried to make him as much as comfortable he could be. Mr. X was seen by the doctor fairly quick and he was given some medication which helped him a lot to ease the pain. According to NMC 2008 (b.), the nurses has to work with the colleagues hand in hand as a team and keep the colleagues informed in order to promote and protect the health and well being of the individual in their care. Mr. X reports that the nurse looking after him was very empathetic, kind and attentive which made him feel like he was the only person who mattered. Another, good experience Mr. X
